Cadet/2nd Lt Lindsey Summerlin of G.V. Sonny Montgomery Composite Squadron MS-102, Meridian, left, was recently presented the Civil Air Patrol “Brigadier General Billy Mitchell Award” by Major Samantha Weeks, lead solo of the United States Air Force Demonstration Team,The Thunderbirds. Summerlin was presented the award at the Aviation Nation Airshow at Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada. The Mitchell Award marks the completion of Phase II of the CAP Cadet Program. To earn the award, cadets must pass a comprehensive leadership exam, comprehensive aerospace exam, physical fitness test and attend a Civil Air Patrol cadet encampment. Lauderdale High School. She has applied and is a candidate to attend the United States Air Force Academy and United States Naval Academy. She has received nominations from U.S. Congressman Chip Pickering and Sen. Roger Wicker to attend the USAF Academy and the US Naval Academy.
