Reader overlooked humor in column

I thought Steve Gillespie’s column regarding Confederate Memorial Day was very humorous. It seems that Richard L. Williams either doesn’t have a sense of humor or was having a very bad day.
It sometimes makes me wonder what people are thinking when they stir up controversy and demand “political correctness.” I believe that was Mr. Williams’ point, although he used different words. Steve’s column was tongue-in-cheek (which some of them are, which is why they’re so entertaining). Mr.Williams, why don’t you quit reading Steve’s column if it upsets you so much? You’re beginning to come across as a redneck bigot. I’m sure your family is so proud.
