Please support ‘Run for the wall’

Thank you for publishing my letter last year and the coverage and encouragement you are giving this year, regarding the “Run for the Wall” group that will enter our city again on May 19th at approximately 5:30 p.m. Also, thanks to Ken Storms for his April 21st article explaining the significance of this ride. For those who did not read it, this group of motorcyclists ride across country to Washington, D.C. for Memorial Day. Their purpose is to bring awareness and encourage us to continue our search for our prisoners of war (POW’s) and those still missing in action (MIAs). Never forget them! The majority of these riders are Vietnam veterans. My husband is one of these, which is also why I feel so strongly about this event. Two words that convey thanks to a Vietnam veteran (more than you will ever know): “Welcome Home.” They never received a hero’s reception when they returned home and many never have returned … these are who they ride for.
Please join me in welcoming these riders and showing them by our presence that we do remember our POWs and MIAs, appreciate what they have sacrificed for us and, will bring them home. I am so grateful to these veterans, our World War II veterans like my father and, all the men and women who served and continue to serve our country today. Thank you and Welcome Home, for it is you have given us this freedom we enjoy today.
