New Year’s Eve:

Published 10:54 pm Saturday, December 29, 2007

Wondering what to do on New Year’s Eve but just don’t know where to look? Have no fear — The Star has asked local businesses and organizations their plans for New Year’s Eve parties that are open to the public. Here are a few local places that invite you to greet the year 2008 with them:

Temple Theater: Ring in the new year the retro way

The Shriner’s Club will host a New Year’s Eve Dance at the Temple Theater from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. The dance will be casual and will feature the music of Albert Morton and the Dominoes, who play danceable tunes from the ’50s, ’60s and ’70s.

The dance is BYOB, but light refreshments will be provided. Tickets can be purchased in advance at the rate of $50 for couples and $40 for singles, or at the door at a rate of $60 for couples and $50 for singles.

Crescent City Grill: Kick back with a casual party atmosphere

Though the Crescent City Grill will have a New Year’s Eve party, they will not be hosting live music this year, a manager at the restaurant said.

They invite people to join them on New Year’s Eve to enjoy a party with give-aways and a champagne toast at midnight.

The Rustler: Have a ritzy new year at this high-end steakhouse

The Rustler is expecting a big crowd for New Year’s Eve, and will stay open for as long as people keep coming. Though their menu will be the same as usual, the Rustler will offer champagne and party favors along with a New Year’s Eve party atmosphere.

The Gathering Place: Take a dose of religion with your coffee

If you prefer to worship as you ring in the new year, you may want to check out the New Wine Ministries 11:45 worship service at the Gathering Place on Front Street (in the old Montana’s building). Get there early to partake of yummy coffees and teas downstairs at Sidetrack Coffee House.

Weidmann’s: Big crowds, but no party hats

If you’re thinking of celebrating the dawn of another year at Weidmann’s, you might want to make your reservations soon. The historic downtown restaurant expects to be completely booked New Year’s Eve even though they don’t have any special events planned. The restaurant will be open from 5:30 to 10 p.m.

Like the restaurant, the Monkey Bar upstairs does not have anything special planned for the evening, but will likely be crowded nonetheless.
