All of us are aware that our world has been blessed with electronic miracles in sound, sound recordings, digital progress in telephone communications, modern cameras and photography, tremendous engineering advances in television, and citizens can now produce almost professional-perfect pictures with home videos, CD’s and DVD’s. They have taught themselves without much assistance to operate the various things mentioned herein.
More than 40 years ago, Meridianite Hartley D. Peavey, at about age 25, founded Peavey Electronics Corporation, and started manufacturing guitar amplifiers and began selling his product to a few locations in the Meridian area. His father, J.B. “Mutt” Peavey was owner and founder of Peavey’s Melody Music in 1938. Through his teenage years, Hartley was exposed to rock and roll and rock-a-billy music and he became interested more in the sound of the amps and equipment, than he actually did the performances. The name “Peavey” has become a household word throughout most of the world, yet Peavey has kept his roots planted in Meridian.
Some of the Hartley Peavey success and history will be shared on chapter No. 200, of “Remember When” which will be aired on AM-1010 WMOX this Saturday from 1p.m.- 4 p.m.
There will also be featured some “Homecoming Memories” of WMOX from the 1980’s. A special “Hank Thompson Memorial Saute” will be heard during the three hour special. Guests will include Thelma Fitzgerald, Jim Myrick and Don Ainsworth. The show will complete its 25th anniversary in January and it’s a copyrighted feature of Carl Fitzgerald.
