ONE-ON-ONE WITH PILOTS

Lindsey Summerlin, a junior at West Lauderdale High School, center, is shown with Majs. Nicole Malachowski, left, and Samantha Weeks, both pilots with the USAF Thunderbirds. Lindsey, who plans to attend the USAF Academy upon graduation in 2009, spent an hour of one-on-one time with both pilots at an airshow in New Orleans. She obtained answers to her many questions about attending the USAF Academy and a career in the USAF. During the Thunderbirds performance, Weeks carried aboard her aircraft silver wings Lindsey received from attending an Undergraduate Pilot Training Familiarization Course this summer at Columbus AFB, MS, with the Civil Air Patrol, which she is a member of at Key Field. Earlier this month, Lindsey visited the academy, touring facilities, spending the day with a cadet and attending the Air Force vs. Army football game.
