A man wanted by Kentucky law enforcement authorities for six felony offenses was apprehended Wednesday afternoon by deputies of the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department and is currently awaiting extradition.

Harold Steve Peters, 48, of 13255 Rocky Ridge Road north of Collinsville, was taken into custody at a location on 49th Avenue in Meridian at 12:30 p.m. said LCSD Chief Dep. Ward Calhoun Thursday afternoon. He will be held in the Lauderdale County Adult Detention Facility until arrangements can be made for his transport back to Kentucky.

According to Calhoun, Peters is wanted in Prestonburg, Ky. for three counts of trafficking a controlled substance, two counts of unlawful transactions with a minor and one count of tampering with physical evidence.

Local authorities have been searching for Peters after being notified two weeks ago he may be in the Meridian area. A Crime Stoppers tip led deputies to an undisclosed location on 49th Avenue just north of Interstate 59/20 where he was taken into custody without incident.

Peters has no outstanding warrants in Lauderdale County.
