Today is the general election, and polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
No identification is necessary to vote unless you have registered by mail and are voting for the first time. While you are not required to present your voter registration card, poll workers may find it helpful.
All the polls in this election will be using the Diebold touchscreen ballot machines, which are designed to make the process of voting easier. There will be at least two of the machines at each precinct.
Poll workers issue each voter a voter access card, which they insert into the machine to vote. On the ballot, you cast your vote by simply touching the screen. Ann Watts, Lauderdale County election commissioner, emphasized voters must insert the voter access card into the machine until they hear a click.
Ballots are not cast until the voter has touched the “cast ballot” button in the lower right hand side of the screen. Once this is done, the voter access card will pop out of the machine and the screen will inform you that your vote has been cast.
This is a county and statewide election, covering every county and state office from constable to governor. Voters may find the location of their poll printed on their voter registration card.
