Meridian Daylily Society

Tim and Katisue Herrington of Herrington Daylily Garden in Dublin, Ga., were guest speakers at the Region No. 14 Fall Regional Meeting of the Daylily Society.

Meridian was the setting for the Oct. 6, 2007, session at Holiday Inn Northeast. The Meridian Daylily Society served as host for the meet, which was attended by 78 members. Region 14 includes Mississippi and Alabama.

The Herringtons gave a humorous and informative presentation between the two discussing their particular daylilies. He has the “Cupcake” series and she has the “Oz” series. Their daylilies are magnificent, with usual shapes and colors.

The Meridian Daylily Society provided many useful door prizes at a drawing held at the opening of the meeting. Daylilies brought by local members were sold at the plant sale. Working the plant sales table were Charlotte Mouser, Juanita Temple and Carol Ewing. Gloria Jolly, local treasurer, collected the money for the sale of daylilies.

New and better daylilies were auctioned off by Joe Langdon of Birmingham, Ala., to the highest bidder. Linda Beck, regional publicity director is responsible for getting the fine daylilies from area hybridizers and some from hybridizers in other regions for the auction.

John Falch of Fairhope, Ala., regional vice president, conducted the meeting and explained the new tax laws. Barbara Watts, who is on the board of directors, reported about new officers and happenings in the club.

Tom Adams, treasurer for the region, presented the financial report. Oliver Billinglea, editor of The Dixie Daylily, reported about articles in the “Dixie Daylily,” and encouraged members to write articles on selected topics he chose.
