John Wayne Price Sr.



Services for John Wayne Price Sr. will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at New Fellowship Baptist Church in Enterprise with the Rev. Dennis Hardaway officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Berry and Gardner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Price, 41, of Ridgeland, died Monday, Oct. 22, 2007, in his home. He was employed with M-Tek Mississippi, Inc.

Survivors include his wife, Coretta; sons, John Wayne Price Jr. and Cameron Cole Price; parents, Samuel Price Sr. and Willie E. Price of Enterprise; brothers, Shelley H. Cole of Heidelberg, Samuel L. Price Jr., of Chicago, Casey A. Price of Ellisville and William H. Price of Quitman; sisters, Rena M. Price Arrington of Newton, Carrie Price Young of Kenosha, Wis., Helen M. Price Moss and Hilda F. Price Newman, both of Enterprise.

Visitation will be today from 6 p.m.- 8 p.m. at Magnolia United Methodist Church on Highway 513 West in Enterprise.



Willie Albert Gowdy

Services for Willie Albert Gowdy will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Oak Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. P.S. Jenkins officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Clark’s Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Gowdy, 33, of Meridian, died Friday, Oct. 19, 2007, in Meridian.

Survivors include his wife, Katina Gowdy; step-sons, Santonio Brewster and Alexander Lanier and his mother, Sarah Gowdy.

Visitation will be today from 6 p.m.- 7 p.m. at the funeral home.



Rev. James Henry Young



GILBERTOWN, Ala. — Services for the Rev. James Henry Young will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Hickory Grove Baptist Church with the Revs. Dr. Robbie Howard and Randy Grimes officiating. Burial will be in Mosley Cemetery. Phillips Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Rev. Young, 69, of Gilbertown, died Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2007, at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center in Meridian, Miss.

Survivors include his wife, Betty M. Young; daughters, Deborah LaCaze and Angela Giles; one sister and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be held today from 6 p.m.- 8 p.m. at the church.



Austin Gatlin



QUITMAN — Services for Austin Gatlin will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Wright’s Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Waynesboro.

Mr. Gatlin, 88, of Waynesboro and Daleville, Ala., died Thursday, Oct. 25, 2007, in his home. He was born in a log cabin with a dirt floor in Waynesboro. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He enlisted in the U.S. Army after two years as a student at Mississippi State College in Starkville. He served in World War II in the European Theatre of Operations and was captured by the Germans just before the Battle of the Bulge, in the Huertgen Forest and was held as a prisoner of war for seven months.

After World War II, he reenlisted in the U.S. Army and had tours of duty in Frankfurt and Bonn, German and Paris. His last tour was at Fort Rucker, Ala. and as Sergeant Major of the newly formed warrant officer candidate school. He retired in 1967 after more than 24 years. Among his metals, he coveted the Silver Star and Bronze Star, each with two oak leaf clusters, the Combat Infantry Badge, The Prisoner of War Metal, and The Purple Heart.

Mr. Gatlin was a staunch Republican for many years and contributed to Republican Party requests. He was a personal friend of U.S. Rep. Terry Everett and Alabama State Rep. Steve Clouse.

He enjoyed attending the Daleville City Council Meetings, The Association of the U.S. Army (AUSA) dinner meetings, and in particular, his morning breakfast get togethers with Daleville Mayor Wess Etheredge and City and State employees. At the first city council meeting of each month, The Pledge of Allegiance was said, due to the request to the mayor and city council by Mr. Gatlin. At the AUSA dinner meetings, Mr. Gatlin was called upon to lead the members in The Pledge of Allegiance.

He was a 32nd Degree Shriner and a Scottish Rite.

Survivors include his sons, Hugh E. Gatlin of Wetumpka, Ala., and Charles F. Gatlin of Tampa; a sister, Walter Mae Faulkner of Hueytown, Ala., and a brother, Earl Gatlin of Quitman; a niece, Eminora Pittman and a nephew, Charles Faulkner III; his ex-wife and dear friend, Marianne G. Jackson of Daleville, Ala.

He was preceded in death by parents, Edd and Epsie Snellgrove Gatlin; brothers, Ulmer, Olie and Otis Gatlin; and sisters, Eunie and Mabel.

Memorials may be made Daleville Volunteer Rescue Squad, Daleville, AL 36322.

Visitation will be Saturday from 10 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.



Sara Lanterman

A visitation only for Sara Lanterman will be held Saturday from 5 p.m. – 9 p.m. at Stephens Funeral Home in Meridian.

Mrs. Lanterman, 73, of Meridian, died Wednesday October 24, 2007, in her home.

Survivors include her children, Terry Lanterman and his wife, Kristi, of Meridian, Timothy Lanterman of Fall Brook, Calif., Douglas and his wife, Mary Ethridge of Causeyville, Susan Ethridge, of Meridian, Sally and Mike Kennedy of Meridian, Leann McDonald and her husband, Jeremey, of Jackson;

10 grandchildren and several great grandchildren; her step-son, John Lanterman and his wife, Scharmayne, of

Dupo, Ill. and a sister, Irene Boggs of Tennessee.

She was preceded in death by her husband Elwood Lanterman; Parents: John and Ursula McKinley; siblings,

Lucy Poore, Sally Poole, Allen McKinley, Harold McKinley, W. T. McKinley, James McKinley, John B. McKinley

and Albert McKinley.

Betty Coffey Tubb



MACON — Memorial visitation for Betty Coffey Tubb will be held Saturday from 5 p.m.- 7 p.m. at Cockrell Funeral Home.

Mrs. Tubb, 58, of Macon, died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2007, at Riley Hospital in Meridian. She worked for The Meridian Star for several years as both a lifestyle editor and assistant editor of the people section. She won many awards from the Mississippi Press Women’s Association and authored her own music column called “Jam”. Some of her renowned interviews include Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, and Waylon Jennings. During this time, Betty was asked to contribute her writing style to one of the famous folk rocker Bob Dylan’s promotional tour books and also to serve on the executive board of the Jimmie Rodgers Music Festival.

After retiring from The Star, she relocated to Shuqualak and contributed much to Noxubee County as a substitute teacher, volunteer and dedicated worker at Elderly Care Center of Macon. She was also a member of the Junior Auxiliary of Macon, which donates both time and money to philanthropies around Noxubee County.

Survivors include her daughter, Laura Tubb, her fiancé, Fred Zephier and her mother, Betty Coffey.

Services for Lenard Lee Clark will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at Barham Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. James Ruffin and John Temple officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Mr. Clark, 82, of Meridian, died Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2007, at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center.

Visitation will be Sunday from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. at the funeral home.



Lillie Clark



Arrangements were incomplete at Clark’s Memorial Funeral Home for Lillie Clark, 59, of Meridian, who died Thursday, Oct. 25, 2007, in Louisville.
