At 9:45 a.m. customers waited patiently for 10 a.m. so they could get their first look at the brand new Best Buy, which also marks the first store to open in the Meridian Crossroads shopping center.
At 10 a.m. the crowd of hundreds was welcomed in, and the crowd scattered throughout the store looking at the various deals.
There was also a short ribbon cutting ceremony that happened shortly after customers were welcomed inside.
One of the most notable events that happened during the ribbon cutting ceremony was the donation of $10,000 given to the Boys and Girls Club of Meridian.
Tom Williams, a broadcasting student at Meridian Community College, was the first customer to make a purchase in the store. What did he buy?
“A Kit Kat bar,” Williams said. “That’s not the only thing I’m looking at though, I’ve been looking forward to the store opening for some time because normally I had to go elsewhere to find the things I look for. I found a camera in here that shoots high definition 24p video. You couldn’t find that in Meridian before.”
Best Buy seems to be a popular spot for students and professionals alike. Nate Prater, a photographer also came to the store to look for deals that would aid in his profession.
“I’m always looking for deals on equipment, and also I already have ties to Best Buy as my son who lives in Memphis is a store manager there,” Prater said. “The store is a great addition to Meridian.”
