Leonard H. Farley

BUTLER, Ala. — Visitation for Leonard H. Farley will be held today at Bumpers Funeral Home. A prayer service will begin at 6:30 p.m. with the Rev. Phillip Webb officiating. Visitation will immediately follow until 8 p.m.

Graveside services will be held later in the week at the Beaufort National Cemetery in Beaufort, S.C.

Mr. Farley, 68, of Butler, died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2007, at his home. A native of Tuscaloosa, he was a master gunnery sergeant in the U.S. Marines. Mr. Farley served three tours of Vietnam.

Survivors include two sons, Leonard H. Farley Jr. of Beaufort and Charlie Farley of Anderson, S.C.; a daughter, Gina Cromer and her husband, Wayne, of Beaufort; a sister, Rebecca Jackson and her husband, Bobby; four brothers, James Farley of Oneona, Jerome Farley of Vance, Gilath Collins of Beaufort and Gilbert Collins of Boston, Mass.; four nephews, Carl Jackson and his wife, Jackie, and their daughter, Victoria, of Butler, Sidney Jackson and his wife, Sheila, of Meridian, Shon Jackson of Atlanta, Ga., and Scott Jackson and his wife, Kathryn, and their sons, Jonathan and Brian, of Butler; two aunts, Betty Johnston of Montivallo and Margaret Chapple of Birmingham; five grandsons; one granddaughter; and one great-granddaughter.

The family requests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, Calvary Baptist Church of Butler or Caring Angels Hospice.



J.I. Stewart

Retired truck driver



Services for J.I. Stewart will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Barham Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Jerry Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Center Grove Cemetery.

Mr. Stewart, 82, of Meridian, died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2007, in Meridian. He was a retired truck driver with 21 years service. Mr. Stewart was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Mr. Stewart attended Cathedral Assembly of God.

Survivors include his wife, Roberta M. Stewart of Meridian; two daughters, Rhonda Stewart Denton and her husband, Ray, of Meridian, and Tanya Stewart Hermanson and her husband, Michael, of Tucson, Ariz.; four step-children, Faye Bowers and her husband, Milton, Randall Watson and his wife, Lynn, and Mary Ann McKinney and her husband, James, all of Meridian, and Bertie Lindley and her husband, Austin, of Hickory; one grandchild, Taylor Hermanson of Tucson; numerous step-grandchildren; three sisters, Eloise Davidson and Dolly Roper, both of Meridian, and Janie Reese of Butler, Ala.; and a brother, Judson Stewart of Meridian.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Hagwood Stewart; his parents, Sam and Kate Jay; a sister, Belle Langford; and three brothers, James, Clay and Clyde Stewart.

Visitation will be held today, from 5 p.m.-8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Milton Bowers, Austin Lindley, Mitch Bowers, Bill Carpenter, Bob Denton and Marvin Weir.





Robert “Leonard” Taylor

Retired peach farmer



Services for Robert “Leonard “ Taylor will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Northpark Church of God, with the Rev. Earl Wheatley officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery with Barham Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Taylor, 84, of Meridian, died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2007, at Regency Hospital. A lifelong resident of Lauderdale County, he was a loving husband, father and Papaw. Mr. Taylor won numerous awards for his outstanding accomplishments as a peach farmer and cattleman. His heart belonged to his Lord, his family and his church, Northpark Church of God. At Northpark, he served many years as song leader and in numerous church leadership positions.

Mr. Taylor loved nature and after retirement enjoyed working in his garden and flower beds. He and his wife also loved to travel and over the years visited all 50 states. Mr. Taylor was a charming, Southern gentleman who never met a stranger, and always had a twinkle in his eye and a smile on his face. He was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Inell Moffett Taylor of Meridian; three daughters, Linda Arledge and her husband, Willie, Renee Boatner and her husband, Buster, all of Meridian, and Pam Taylor; six grandchildren, Annette Galyean Cook and her husband, John, of Tuscaloosa, Ala., Debbie Galyean Mathis and her husband, Todd, Mandy Galyean Smith and her husband, Tommy, and Rachel Galyean, all of Meridian, Stacy Jones Burt and her husband, Robby, and Ricky Jones; six great-grandchildren, Robert Jordan Mathis, Lindsay Cook, Taylor Cook, Noah Mathis, Robert Burt and William Burt; a brother, Lamar Taylor of Meridian; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Omera Taylor Anderson and Glennie Taylor Norris Lucas; and his parents, Nate Taylor and Sadie Taylor.

The family requests memorial be made to Northpark Church Building Fund, 7770 Highway 39 North, Meridian, Miss., 39305.

Visitation will be held today, from 5 p.m.-8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Ricky Jones, Jordan Mathis, John Cook, Todd Mathis, Tommy Smith and Noah Mathis. Honorary pallbearers will be Danny Matthews, Tommy Matthews, Everette Daniels and William Thompson.



Johnny W. Caruthers-Stewart

Services for Johnny W. Caruthers-Stewart will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Union Kemper Springs Baptist Church in DeKalb, with the Rev. Robert Coats officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with E.E. McDonald Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Caruthers-Stewart, 24, of Houston, Texas, formerly of Meridian, died Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2007, in Houston.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

Visitation will be held today, from 6 p.m.-7 p.m., at E.E. McDonald Community Chapel, Meridian.



Dorothy Theuer Frye

Retired nurse



Services for Dorothy Theuer Frye will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at James F. Webb Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. John Sharp officiating. Burial will be in Cokers Chapel Cemetery.

Mrs. Frye, 76, died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2007, in Meridian. She worked 20-plus years as a nurse at Rush Foundation Hospital. Mrs. Frye also worked for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington, D.C., during World War II.

Survivors include two sons, Charles Lewis Frye and Dr. George “Rusty” Frye and his wife, Jamie, all of Meridian; a sister, Mary Chambers and her husband, Newton, of Gardendale, Ala.; and a brother-in-law, R.C. Britt of Birmingham, Ala.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell G. Frye; a brother, Herman Fuller; and a sister, Cora Ann Britt.

The family requests memorials be made to the Humane Society, Audubon Society or the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to

Animals (ASPCA).



Pamela Ann Hales Cooper

Services for Pamela Ann Hales Cooper will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Stephens Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Collinsville.

Mrs. Cooper, 44, of Meridian, died Thursday, Aug. 2, 2007, at St. Dominic Hospital, Jackson. A lifelong resident of Meridian, she was a machine operator for Avery Denison. Mrs. Cooper loved gardening, especially sunflowers. She also enjoyed all crafts — especially beading — and most of all, her cats.

Survivors include her husband, Jimmy Cooper of Meridian; two daughters, MeChell Poythress and Brynell McCarty, both of Meridian; two grandchildren, Ethan Faircloth and Eli Faircloth, both of Meridian; her mother and step-father, Jerri and David Tracy of Rose Hill; her step-mother, Doris Hales of Meridian; and two sisters, Marie Vincent and her husband, Buddy, of Hackberry, La., and Rita Gibson and her husband, Tommy, of Sulphur, La.

She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Hales.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, from 6 p.m.-8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Jason Mandrell, Mike Cothern, Jeff Pierce, Lee Reynolds, Tim Neal and Joshua Boyette.
