Clarkdale 16U off to good start at ASA Nationals

The Clarkdale 16U softball team got off to a good start at the ASA National Tournament in Columbus, Ga. Friday night, winning two tight games, including defeating the USSSA World Champions in the bottom of the last inning.
Clarkdale began their day by defeating Who Nexx from Louisiana by a score of 9-6. Sarah Beckman led the way for the Lady Bulldogs, picking up three hits, including a double.
Jessica Clark and Cayla Coleman also had multiple hits in the game while Courtney Castleberry pitched in with a double.
Cory Roberson picked up the win inside the circle.
In the second game of pool play for Clarkdale, the Lady Bulldogs knocked off the Oklahoma Extreem, which won the USSSA World Championship last weekend.
Clarkdale entered the bottom of the seventh inning trailing 6-4, but made a furious comeback.
Roberson hit a two-run single to tie the game at six and Abbey Roberts drove home the winning run with a single of her own to make the final score 7-6 in favor of Clarkdale.
Amber Spann led the way with three hits in the nightcap while Clark had a double and a home run. Beckman and Roberts also had two hits apiece. Roberson was once again the winning pitcher.
Clarkdale will continue in the tournament this afternoon, playing their first game at 2:30 local time.
