Anita Kathleen Wells

Graveside services for Anita Kathleen Wells will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at Magnolia Cemetery. Stephens Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Wells, 84, of Meridian, died Monday, June 25, 2007, at Queen City Nursing Home. She was born in Paisley, Scotland on Oct. 22, 1921, to Dorothy Kathleen England and Willifred George England. She spent most of her early life in Bath, England. She survived the blitz in England during World War II and married Stacey James Wells, an American soldier, and came to the U.S. after the war in 1946. She was a homemaker during most of her married life, but worked outside of her home at Alex Loebs Department Store, Hallmark Card Shop and at Harry Mayers Clothing Store.

She loved arts and crafts (oil painting, embroidery, needlework and gardening). As members of Central Presbyterian Church, she and her husband, were youth counselors for many years.

Survivors include her daughters, Barbara Lynn Wells of Meridian and Alison Kathleen Wells of New Orleans.

Terry Allen Johnson

Retired



CANTON — Services for Terry Allen Johnson will be held today at 10 a.m. at Breeland Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Meridian at 3 p.m. Barham Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

Mr. Johnson, 58, of Canton, formerly of Meridian, died Monday, June 25, 2007, in Canton. He was born on Feb. 24, 1949, in Nashville, Tenn. He was a graduate of Meridian High School and was an outstanding kicker on Bob Tyler’s 1967 state champion football team. He attended Belhaven College on a baseball scholarship, and graduated in 1971 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He was a retired BellSouth service technician after serving more than 35 years in Canton and Jasper, Ala.

He will be remembered as one who loved the outdoors and devoted much of his time spreading his love of sports. He initiated a training program for umpires in the Canton Dixie Youth League during the 1980’s and just recently served as a coach on his granddaughter’s tee ball team. He was a member of Barnett Bass Masters and competed in many fishing tournaments. he was an avid golfer and member of Canton County Club. He enjoyed his retirement playing golf on the weekends, fishing during the week, and playing cards with his Monday night crew. His artistic side was expressed through photography and cooking. In retirement, he continued to master the art of cooking, perfecting a cheesecake that “could knock your socks off.”

Survivors include his daughter, Jennifer Hurless of Dallas; a son, Richard Johnson and their mother, Miriam Buttross Koury, both of Canton; his parents, Betty and R.L. Johnson of Meridian; his special friend and companion, Sandra Williams of Jasper, Ala.; brother, Paul Johnson of Pensacola, Fla.; sister, Rita Forbes of Destin, Fla., and granddaughters, Delaney Grace Johnson, Anna Carson Johnson and Aubrey Claire Hurless and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be today one hour prior to the graveside service at Barham Funeral Home.



Luna Mae Barrett



PHILADELPHIA — Services for Luna Mae Barrett will be held today at 2 p.m. at Good Hope Baptist Church in Neshoba County with the Rev. Dennis Duvall officiating. Burial will be in Cedarlawn Cemetery in Philadelphia. McClain-Hays Funeral Service, Inc. is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Barrett, 93, of McMinnville, Tenn., formerly of Philadelphia, died Saturday, June 23, 2007 at Stones River Hospital in Woodbury, Tenn.



Willma Dallas James

Retired cosmetologist



UNION — Services for Willma Dallas James will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Union with the Rev. Dr. Marcus Finch officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery. Stephens Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. James, 97, of Union, died Sunday, June 24, 2007, at Magnolia Regional in Union.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Union.

Visitation will be Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church.



David Thomas Grady



DEKALB — Services for David Thomas “Ole Folk” Grady were held Monday at 2 p.m. at Mt. Salem Baptist Church in Preston with the Revs. Darryl Rush and Joyce Bohannon officiating. Burial was in Jerusalem Cemetery in DeKalb. Hampton Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Grady, of DeKalb, died Tuesday, June 19, 2007, at Rush Foundation Hospital in Meridian.

Survivors include his eight sisters; three brothers and several nieces,nephews, other relatives and friends.
