Patrician Academy rallies past Lamar Raiders

Barry Meeks hit a two-run homer in the top of the seventh inning to spark Patrician Academy to a 12-11 win over Lamar School in area high school baseball action Friday afternoon at Q.V. Sykes Park.
Patrician led 6-1 early, but was down 11-9 after Lamar scored four runs in the fourth, two in the fifth and four more in the sixth.
Lamar lost despite a single, double, triple and three RBIs from Justin Palmer. John L. McRae had a double and two RBIs, while Drake Nosco had a single and two RBIs.
Andrew Watkins added a pair of hits and an RBI, while Bryce Branning had a sacrifice fly and an RBI.
Meeks was the winning pitcher in relief for Patrician, while Palmer — who followed McRae and Branning on the hill — was the loser.
Meeks finished with three hits and four RBIs to pace the Saints.

The Cougars won their seventh in a row by pounding visiting Grace Christian at Q.V. Sykes.
Jeremy Mathis — who now has 12 RBIs in his last two games — was 4-for-4 with a pair of doubles and six RBIs to lead the offensive onslaught.
Jacob Mathis was 2-for-2, Trey Fox was 2-for-3, Trey Chapman was 2-for-4 and Matt Harbour was 1-for-1 with an RBI for Calvary.
Caleb Riddle (1-0) got the win on the mound, scattering six hits and striking out four in four innings of work.
Calvary, 7-5, will host Ben’s Ford in a doubleheader beginning at noon today.

Noxubee County 0
Paxton Pace homered three times and Brent Gough and Jamie Byrd combined on a no-hitter as the top-ranked Knights hammered visiting Noxubee County Friday night in a Division 4-4A contest.
West won for the 17th straight time to improve to 23-1 overall and 9-0 in division play. The Knights host New Hope in a key division game at 1 p.m. today.
Pace set a school record for homers in a game with three — two of them in a 15-run first inning for the Knights.
Darren Farmer and Tyler Vick both homered and had two hits, while Austin Davis, Cody Freeman, Luke Walker and Logan Theall all had two hits, as well.
Gough was the winning, striking out six in three innings of work while Byrd fanned three in two innings. They combined to allow two walks but no hits.

The Hornets ran their record to 17-4 overall and 7-0 in Division 6-1A with a shutout win over Puckett Friday night.
Lake’s Colton Mitchell (6-2) struck out 18 batters in a seven-inning, complete-game effort. He allowed only one hit and two walks.
Mitchell was also 3-for-4 with a three-run homer, a double and four RBIs and Jordan Gunn was 3-for-4 with a double and one RBI for Lake. Sam Wooten chipped in a pair of hits.
Lake hosts Forest today at 2 p.m.

The Warriors ventured North in Highway 45 and came back with a five-inning, run-rule win over Victory Christian.
Brock Chaney picked up the win on the mound, striking out 10 for Russell Christian Academy.
Preston Meadows drove in five runs, Austin Nolan had four hits and every player in the RCA lineup scored at least once.
Russell, which is now 7-4, hosts Grace Christian School Tuesday.

In a contest played Thursday night, Heidelberg scored three times each in the fifth and sixth frames and held off Russell.
The three-run sixth made it a 9-5 contest for the Lady Rebels, who then held on after the host Lady Warriors scored three times in the bottom of the seventh.
Kelsey Wilson had four hits and losing pitcher Brittany Stahl homered for Russell, which hosts Grace Christian Tuesday at 3 p.m. in its next action.
J. Megan Lizak added a single and double and Andrea Wilson also doubled for the Lady Warriors, who are now 6-2.

The Panthers improved to 4-5 on the season by taking all five matches from Collins Friday.
Quitman’s Ben Humphrey was a 6-0, 6-0 winner over Julius Booth in boys’ singles, while Martha Baldwin blanked Latresha Flower 6-0, 6-0 in girls’ singles.
The QHS boys’ doubles team of Lance Beard and Chance Murff won 6-1, 6-0 over Jeremy Childress and Tim DuBose; while the girls’ doubles tandem of Rachel Whaley and Emily Fleming were 6-0, 6-1 winners over Melekia Owens and Whitney Lockhart.
Ben Boudreaux and Kayla Early blanked Earnest McInnis and Jasmine Moffett in mixed doubles for Quitman, which is at West Jones Tuesday.
