Newton County gets big softball win over Clarkdale

Newton County pounded out 10 hits on Friday night to pick up a 7-4 victory over Clarkdale in prep softball action.

Chelsea Pugh picked up the win for the Lady Cougars.

Kayla Massey, Brittney Cochran, and Casey Buckley each had a single and a double for Newton County in the victory.

Brittany Pippin had two hits for Clarkdale while Amber Spann had a double.

Sarah Beckman, Jessie Clark and Ashley Bye each added a hit for the Lady Bulldogs.

Clarkdale fell to 9-6 for the season with the loss.

Macon Central 20

Immanuel 5



Macon Central got the bats rolling for 21 hits on Friday to take a 20-5 win over Immanuel and improve to 4-2 for the year.

Central held Immanuel to just for hits in the contest.

Alex Dawkins had two singles for Macon while Jessica Stokes had a single, double and two triples.

Hannah Martin had a single and a triple and Lillian Lindsey had a single, two doubles and a triple and also picked up the win on the mound.

Corey Dawkins had a home run while Julianna Persons had two doubles and Veronica Rodriguez had a single and a triple.

Lauren Colby Lindley added two singles in the victory.

Laura Peralto had a double for Immanuel.

Neshoba Central 13

Choctaw Central 3



Neshoba Central rolled to a 13-3 victory over Choctaw Central on Friday night to move to 8-4 for the season.

Taylor Tucker picked up the win for the Lady Rockets.

Hailey Chisolm had two hits including a double for Neshoba Central and Leah Dennis had a home run.

Lauren Jones and Sierra Farlow each added two hits for the Lady Rockets in the win.

Neshoba Central will be back in action today at Philadelphia.

Russell Christian 16-22

Ben’s Ford 6-0



Russell Christian knocked off Ben’s Ford 16-6 and 22-0 on Friday to improve to 4-1 this season.

In the first game, C.C. Lawn had two home runs for Russell in the win while Andrea Wilson had a triple and a single.

Kelsey Wilson had a home run and a double and Brittany Stahl had two singles and a home run.

Jade McLeod had a home run and Renee Knight added two doubles.

In the second game, Wilson had a homer and a single and Lawn had a home run and a triple.

Rachel Knight, Carley Overstreet and J. Megan Lizak each had two hits in the victory and Hope Gibson came through with a single.

Stahl added a home run and a triple.

Russell will be back in action against Calvary on Monday night at 5 p.m. and will travel to play Lamar Christian on Tuesday.

Meridian 19

Noxubee County 1



The homestanding Lady Wildcats erupted for 17 runs in the bottom of the first inning and coasted to a win over Noxubee County in action from Northeast Park on Thursday.

Meridian, which is now 4-7 on the season, got a no-hitter on the mound from Olivia Taylor and pounded out 15 hits as a team. Taylor, who had a triple and two RBIs to help her own cause, is now 3-5 on the hill.

Kayla Brown had two triples, a single and three RBIs and J’Quandra Hickman doubled twice and drove in four runs to lead MHS. Devonna Gilmer homered, singled and drove in three runs and Victoria Moore and Diamond Benoman each had two RBIs.

Meridian goes to Columbus today.

PREP BASEBALL



Enterprise 16

Heidelberg 0



Jamee Taylor allowed just two hits and struck out 10 batters in five innings of work to lead Enterprise to a 16-0 win over Heidelberg.

Chris Smith had two home runs, a single and six RBIs to lead the Enterprise hitting attack.

Colby Pritchett had a two-run home run in the win and Blake Hennington added a single and a double.

Enterprise, 10-6 overall and 6-1 in division play, will travel to play Perry Central today at 2 p.m.

Lake 22

Sebastopol 5



Lake improved to 12-4 overall and 4-0 in division 6-1A play with a 22-5 win over Sebastopol.

Colton Mitchell picked up the win to improve to 5-2 for the year and also went 2-for-3 and knocked in two runs.

Cody Taylor was 3-for-4 with three RBIs while Jordan Gunn went 2-for-2 with a run batted in.

Phillip Sistrunk went 2-for-3 for Sebastopol in the loss.

Lake will play at Scott Central at 1 p.m. today and at Choctaw Central at 6 p.m.

Macon Central 14

Hebron Christian 1



Shea Clark scattered seven hits in six innings and struck out five batters to lead Macon Central to a 14-1 victory over Hebron.

Colby Moore had a triple and a home run and knocked in two runs for Macon while Justin Walker had two singles and an RBI.

Chris Sudduth had two singles, a double and two RBIs and Rayce Pennick had two singles, a double and three runs batted in.

Trevor Eaves had a single, double and knocked in two runs and Cody Boykin had a big night with a single, double and home run in a four-RBI performance.

The Vikings improved to 11-3 for the season with the victory and will host Heritage Academy on Monday.

West Lauderdale 7

Kosciusko 0



Kosciusko’s first batter of the game reached on a hit but it was the visitor’s only hit allowed by West Lauderdale pitcher Paxton Pace in a 7-0 Knight win.

Pace went seven innings and struck out eight batters in the one-hitter. He also had two hits at the plate for the Knights.

Darren Farmer and Austin Davis each had three hits in the win while Luke Walker had two hits including a two-run home run.

The Knights moved to 18-1 overall and 6-0 in division play with the win and will host Columbia at 1 p.m. today.

The Knights will also play at Southeast Lauderdale today at 7 p.m.

Calvary Christian 15

Lamar Christian 0



Trey Fox allowed just two hits in four innings of work as Calvary extended its win streak to three games in a 15-0 win over Lamar Christian.

Caleb Riddle went 3-for-4 in the win while Stephen Hudson was 2-for-3 with a triple and a double and Justin Sylvester went 2-for-2.

Calvary improved to 3-5 overall and 2-0 in district play and will host the Second Annual Calvary Invitational Tournament today.

Calvary will play Veritas at 1 p.m. on one field at Q.V. Sykes Park and Kemper Academy and University Christian will play on another field at the Park at 1 p.m. with the championship and consolation games to follow.

Newton County 16

Forest 2



Newton County used an 18-hit night to cruise past Forest 16-2 on Friday night.

Tyler Laird had a single and double for the Cougars and Kyle Buckley went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Brandon Williams was 3-for-3 with a triple and three RBIs while Jeremy May went 2-for-3 and knocked in three runs.

Drew Wilson had a double and two RBIs and Tyler Davis knocked in three runs with a single and a double.

Colby Bishop had a two singles and a run batted in. Brandon Thomas had two RBIs with a 2-for-3 night and Jose Acosta went 2-for-4.

Acosta pitched five innings, allowed one earned run and allowed just five hits to improve to 3-2 for the year.

The Cougars improved to 13-5 overall and 8-0 in division play.

PREP TENNIS



Corinth 3

Meridian 2



Kelly Sterling picked up her 80th career win for Meridian High in the girls’ singles match but Corinth slipped past the Wildcats 3-2 on Friday.

Sterling won her match 6-3, 6-3. B.B. Mitchell and Will Watts won their boys’ doubles match over David Palmer and Luke McClellan 2-6, 6-2, 6-2 for Meridian’s other victory.

Corinth’s Kenny Little took the boys single match over Matt Crane 6-1, 6-0.

Abby Lambert and Christina Puckett won the girls’ doubles match for Corinth over Lauren Purvis and Mary Heflin Alexander 6-7, 6-3, 6-4.

Corinth completed the win with a victory by Ward Byrum and Sarah Roberts in mixed doubles.

The pair knocked off Elizabeth Case and Andrew Dayton 4-6, 6-4, 6-2.

Meridian fell to 5-1 for the year with the loss.
