Dr. Roger DuBose Jr.

Services for Dr. Roger DuBose Jr. will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Okatibbee Baptist Church with the Rev. Nehemiah Matthews officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Clark’s Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Dr. DuBose, 52, of Meridian, died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2007, at University of Alabama at Birmingham Medical Center.

He was a native of Meridian. He received a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a bachelor’s degree in secondary education from the University of Southern Mississippi. He received master’s degree in psychology from Mississippi State University and a master’s degree in education from the University of Southern Mississippi. He received his doctorate degree in psychology from Mississippi State University. He was owner of the DuBose Institute and was a professor of psychology and statistics at the University of West Alabama.

He held many presentations and published many articles on psychology and education.

Survivors include his wife, Lisa DuBose of Meridian; a daughter, Violet DuBose of Hattiesburg; a son, Evan Brown of Meridian; a step-son, Elvin Brown; step-daughters, Amanda Brown and Marie Brown, both of Meridian; a brother, Dennis DuBose of Meridian; a step-brother, Willie Lewis of Pensacola, Fla.; sisters, Dorothy Robinson, Peggy Wise and Shirley Morris, all of Akron, Ohio, Rosemary Johnson and Pamela Yarbrough, of Meridian; a step-sister, Sara McGlothin of Meridian and a dear friend of more than 30 years, Mary Dean Brown.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roger DuBose Sr. and Violet Hatch DuBose; three brothers and one sister.

Visitation will be Friday from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. at the funeral home.



Sara Elizabeth Burt



PHILADELPHIA — Services for Sara Elizabeth Burt will be held today at 11 a.m. at McClain-Hays Funeral Service Chapel with the Revs. Allen Herrington and Jerry Bishop officiating. Burial will be in Sandtown Cemetery in Philadelphia.

Mrs. Burt, 62, of Philadelphia, died Monday, Feb. 26, 2007, at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center.



Clytee Rogers Drake



MACON — Services for Clytee Rogers Drake will be held today at 11 a.m. at Macedonia Methodist Church in Shuqualak with the Revs. Bobby Joe Butler and Mike Evans officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Cockrell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Drake, 73, of Shuqualak, died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2007, in her home.

Survivors include her daughter, Patricia Wolf and a son, Cecil McArthur; one sister; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be today one hour prior to the service at the church.

COLUMBUS — Services for Wesley Stephen Adcock will be held today at 2 p.m. at Gunter and Peel Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tony Proctor officiating. Burial will be in Friendship Cemetery in Columbus.

Mr. Adcock, 72, of Daphne, Ala., formerly of Columbus, died Monday, Feb. 26, 2007, at Gulfport Memorial Hospital.

He was born on May 2, 1934 in Kemper County to the late Leon Wesley and Ida Frances Partridge Adcock. He lived and worked for many years in the service station business in Shuqualak and Macon. He was a graduate of Shuqualak High School and was class president and salutatorian. He established and was the first president of the Lions Club of Macon where also served as former commissioner of little league baseball. He worked for several years as sales director of WCBI while living in Columbus. He enjoyed golf and genealogy. For the past six years he had lived in Daphne, Ala., where he was a member of First Baptist Church of Spanish Fort, Ala.

Survivors include his wife, Carol Adcock of Daphne; a son, Mitch Adcock and his wife, Betsy, of Apopka, Fla.; a daughter, Anita Sanderford and her husband, James, of Diamondhead; grandchildren, Wesley Matthew Adcock, Amy Elizabeth Adcock and Wesley Ellis Sanderford.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Rhonda Gail Adcock and his parents.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 200 Office Park Drive, Suite 300, Birmingham, AL 35223.

Pallbearers will be Malcolm Norwood, Marcus Anderson, Billy Wade Whitfield, Boyd McCollum, Otis Taylor, Aubrey Pendergrass, John Peters, Bill Thomas, Andrew Jones and Ed Prescott.

Mrs. Dixon, 65, of Philadelphia, died Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2007, at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center.

Survivors include her sons, Frank Dixon Jr. and Theron Dixon; four sisters; one brother; two sisters-in-law; four grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

NEWTON — Services for Ruby Lee Anderson Brown will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at James F. Webb Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Thomas Sorrell officiating. Burial will be in Newton Masonic Cemetery.

Mrs. Brown, 93, of Newton, died Monday, Feb. 26, 2007, at Heartfelt Hospice of Meridian. She had been a resident of Queen City Nursing Home. She was a member of Newton United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her daughters, Carolyn Holloway and her husband, Stewart, of Brandon and Ann Weatherford and her husband, Don, of Benicia, Calif.; sons, Joseph Brown and his wife, Charlotte, of Meridian, Warren Brown and his wife, Rita, of Collinsville and Jimmy Brown and his wife, Jean, of Lithia, Fla.; one sister, Cathline Bumpers of Coffeeville, Ala.; 14 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerome Brown; a daughter, Lee Brown and her parents, Eugene and Cornelia Estes Anderson.

Pallbearers will be Van Lucas, Bill Freeman, Joey Murphey, J.B. Edwards, Warren Willis and David Kerr.

Mr. Gray, 75, of Philadelphia, died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2007, at Neshoba County General Hospital in Philadelphia. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in Korea.

Mary Kathryn Barrett Brown

Graveside services for Mary Kathryn Barrett Brown will be held Saturday,

at 11 a.m. at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Meridian with Rev. W. D. Pigott officiating. Barham Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Brown, 75, recently of Brandon and formerly of Meridian, died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2007, at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland. She was born Sept. 24, 1931, in Philadelphia to James Dewitt and Josie Barrett and lived most of her life in Meridian.

She was retired from Rush Foundation Hospital where she was a registered nurse and a member of the 25 year club. She was a member of Pleasant Springs Presbyterian Church in Preston and had been attending Pinelake Baptist Church in Brandon.

Survivors include her husband of 54 years, William “Billy” Brown of Brandon, formerly of Meridian; daughters, Kathy Birdsong and her husband, Jim, of Germantown, Tenn., Sara Snowden and her husband, Stan, of Brandon, Becky Barna and her husband, Frank, of Lompoc, Calif., and her son Bill Brown and his wife, Karlyn, of Wichita, Kan.; grandchildren, Amy Birdsong of New York, N.Y., Lindsay Snowden Taylor and her husband, Drew, of Brandon, Jeremy Snowden of Brandon, Chris Barna of Solvang, Calif., Will Barna of Lompoc, and William and Lillian Brown of Wichita, Kan.; sister Joe Ann Ramia Creekmore and her husband, Earl, and several nieces and nephews and extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents J. D. and Josie Barrett and a sister Sarah Barrett Sharp.

Pallbearers will be her son, Bill Brown, her sons-in-law, Jim Birdsong, Stan Snowden and Frank Barna and her nephews, Jimmy Ramia and Joe Ramia.

Memorials may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association or the American Cancer Society.

Visitation will be Friday from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. and Saturday one hour before the service at the funeral home.

He was preceded in death by his wife and children.
