Alice Powell Toole Prince



HOUSTON, Texas — Services for Alice Powell Toole Prince will be held Saturday in Houston. Pruitt Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Ms. Prince, died Saturday, Dec. 9, 2006, at Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Houston.

Survivors include her children, Jennifer Toole of Austin, Cassandra Gaines, Katrina Stephens, Rhonda Allen, Keisha Toole, Shronda Paley and Joe Toole II, all of Houston; sisters, Alberta Phillips of Lucedale, Miss., and Johnnie Tingle of Chicago; several grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Leatha DeLoach.



Hubert Loyd Cooksey



Graveside services for Hubert Loyd Cooksey will be held today at 2 p.m. at Forest Lawn Cemetery with the Rev. Jimmie Gunn officiating. Barham Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Cooksey, 82, of Meridian, died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2006, at Guardian Angel Hospice. He was a member of Suqualena United Methodist Church. He was a member and past master of Suqualena Masonic Lodge No. 418. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served in World War II. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 0021.

Survivors include his wife, Norma Mae Cooksey of Meridian; sons, Glenn Lloyd Cooksey and his wife, Marilyn, of Spring City, Tenn. and Wayne Lee Cooksey and his wife, Sue, of Shreveport, La.; a daughter, Norma Alane Culpepper and her husband, David, of Suqualena; grandchildren, the Rev. Chris Cooksey and his wife, Amanda K., of Stonewall, Scott Cooksey and his wife, Amanda S. of Collinsville and Curtis Cooksey and his wife, Amanda C., of Dyer, Tenn., Davina Culpepper of Suqualena, Stephanie Gilbert and her husband, Eric, of Duffee; great-grandchildren, Caitlin Cooksey of Collinsville, Taylor Cooksey and Nicholas Cooksey, both of Stonewall, Blaine Cooksey of Dyer, Tenn., and Garrett Gilbert of Duffee; sisters, Jeane Jones and her husband, Blanks and JoAnn Brown and her husband, Buck, of Suqualena.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Loyd and Elgie Naomi French Cooksey.

Visitation will be today one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.



Steven D. Dean



Services for Steven D. Dean will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at Barham Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. James Kimbrough, Eddie Tatum and Brandon Speak officiating.

Mr. Dean, 45, of the Lockart Community, died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2006, at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. He worked many years in broadcasting under the name of Steve O’Connor. His latest broadcasting job was at WOKK. He also enjoyed music production as a hobby.

Survivors include his parents, Roy and Jackie Dean of Lauderdale; a brother, Nathan Dean of Meridian; grandmothers, Loraine Dean of Lockart and Doris Moore of Cuba, Ala.; a devoted friend, Robert Spears of Lockart and several other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Charlie Dean of Lockart and the Rev. Troy Moore of Cuba.

Pallbearers will be Jody Jordan, Paul Watkins, Ronnie Nixon, Jubal Ryan, Kenny Mason and Scott Mason.

Honorary pallbearers will be Stanley Dean, Wayne Mason and David Fluker.

Visitation will be Thursday from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. at the funeral home.



William D. James

Retired



JONESBORO, Ga. — Services for William D. “David” James will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Pope Dickson and Son Funeral Home Chapel.

Mr. James, 87, of Jonesboro, formerly of Marion, died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2006, at Heartland Hospice in Riverdale, Ga. He was born in Meridian on Oct. 14, 1919. He was an electrical contractor and was employed for many years at R.N. McElroy Electric Company in Meridian. He was a member of Marion Methodist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served in World War II. Mr. James was awarded a Purple Heart for injuries he received during the battle of Leyte Gulf.

Survivors include his wife of more than 67 years, Laura Swann James; a son, David N. James and his wife, Kathleen, of Dunwoody; a daughter, Mary James Strawn and her husband, Jackson “Jack” Strawn of Jonesboro; a son-in-law, William “Ralph” Setzer of Tulsa, Okla.; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; a brother, Charles James and his wife, Marion, of Lancaster, Texas and a sister, Mildred White of Phoenix.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Leah James Setzer; parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Cleveland James; a brother, Julius Grady James and a sister, Margaret Deason.

Memorials may be made to the Humane Society.

Ralph Gray

Retired



PHILADELPHIA — Services for Ralph Gray will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at McClain-Hays Funeral Service Chapel with the Revs. Jack Foster and David Richardson officiating. Burial will be in Union City Cemetery.

Mr. Gray, 74, of Union, died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2006, at Rush Foundation Hospital. He was born in Neshoba County and lived in Newton County most of his life. He was a member of Victory Fellowship Church. He retired in 1992 as a salesman. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy Gray of Union; daughters, Charlene Pinson and Karen Foster, both of Union; grandchildren, Jennifer Dickerson, Jonathan Hatch, Jessie Pinson, Evan Pinson, Jacia Foster and Jeron Foster; great-grandchildren, Cole Hatch, Melodie Dickerson, and Abbie Dickerson.

Pallbearers will be Evan Pinson, Jonathan Hatch, Danny Smith, Johnny Entrekin, Randy Clark and Mike Calvert.

Visitation will be today from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. at the funeral home.



C. Gordon Sykes

Retired



Services for C. Gordon Sykes will be held Friday at 2:30 p.m. at Barham Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Russell Luquire officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Mr. Sykes, 81, of Meridian, died Monday, Dec. 11, 2006, in his home. He graduated from Starkville High School. He was a retired insurance adjustor for Crawford and Company. He was an auxiliary sheriff deputy. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He will be remembered as a wonderful husband and father.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Sykes of Meridian; a daughter, Rita Nowaski and her husband, Jim, of Meridian; a sister, Carol Wiley of Madison; granddaughters, Nikki Fryer and Sandra Davis, both of Liberty, Mo. and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, W.C. and Stella Sykes and a brother, Maurice Sykes.

Pallbearers will be Jim Nowaski, David Hope, David Zirtzlaff, Douglas Hughes, Todd Fryer and Drew Davis.

Visitation will be today from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. at the funeral home.



Antionette R. Sulton

Services for Antionette R. Sulton will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at St. John Baptist Church with the Rev. Jimmy Johnson officiating. Burial will be in New Hope Blackwater Cemetery. Berry and Gardner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Sulton, 43, of Meridian, died Friday, Dec. 8, 2006, at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Visitation will be Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church.
