Jimmy D. Mangrum

KOSCIUSKO — Services for Jimmy D. Mangrum will be held today at 2 p.m. at Doty Springs Baptist Church with the Revs. Don Ray and Mike Skipper officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Culpepper Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Mangrum, 74, of Decatur, died Sunday, Nov. 5, 2006, in his home. He was the retired County Executive Director for U.S. Department of Agriculture. He was born on June 2, 1932, in Attala County. He was the son of the late Carlie Elmer Mangrum and Hazel Irene Woodson Mangrum. He received his associates degree from East Central Junior College. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force where he served as an air traffic control tower operator. He attended Mississippi State University after he was discharged from the military. He received a bachelor’s degree in agricultural education from MSU. He worked for the U.S.D.A. as county executive director in Newton County for the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service. Upon his retirement he continued to pursue his love of farming the land and caring for his animals.
He was a member of Doty Springs Baptist Church. He was a Mason and a Shriner. He was a member of Decatur Exchange Club where he served in various leadership positions. He maintained membership in professional organizations related to his career. He was also very active in a multitude of community service projects over the years. Of all his contributions and accomplishments the greatest joy in his life was being a grandfather to Brody and Carlie.
Survivors include his wife, Christine Horne Mangrum of Decatur; children, Debra Gail Kitchings and her husband, Benjamin, of Decatur and James Darrell Mangrum and his wife, Chrissy, of Man, W.Va.; grandchildren, Samuel Brody Kitchings and Carlie Marie Kitchings; a brother, James Robert “Cooter” Mangrum of Brandon; an uncle, Raymond Woodson of Lakeland, Fla.; aunts, Helen Cummins of Hillsville, Va. and Dovie Mangrum of McCool.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorials may be made to Doty Springs Baptist Church Building Fund.
Visitation will be today from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the funeral home and today 30 minutes prior to the service at the church.
Garland Jeffcoats
UNION — Services for Garland Jeffcoats will be held today at 3 p.m. at Crossroads Baptist Church with the Revs. David Airhart Jr. and Billy Emmons officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Milling Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Jeffcoats, 72, died Sunday, Nov. 5, 2006, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. He was a member, deacon and Sunday school teacher at Crossroads Baptist Church. He was a salesman at Marshall Ford and was a member of the Masonic Evergreen Lodge. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in the Special Forces.
Survivors include his wife of more than 51 years, Glenda Jeffcoats of Decatur; daughters, Debbie Mayes and her husband, Wallace, of Decatur, Robin Neese and her husband, Dewayne, of Sparta, Tenn., and Anita Larkin of Havelock, N.C.; grandchildren, Shanntal Stamper and her husband, Craig, of Conehatta, Lee Neese of Sparta, Blake Little of Fort Lewis, Wash., Cecilia Hankins and her husband, Jason, of Spencer, Tenn., Sabrina Addy, of Havelock, and Dewayne Neese of Sparta; great-grandchildren, Eli Stamper and Zachary Stamper, both of Conehatta and Jaylyn Hankins of Spencer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Will and Hettie Jeffcoats; a son, J. “Bubba” Garland Jeffcoats; sisters, Grace Mabry and Cleo Fortune; brothers, Claude Jeffcoats and Barney Jeffcoats; grandsons, Jeremy Mayes and Cecil Neese and a great-grandson, Clayton Hankins.
Pallbearers will be Pat Jeffcoats, Barney Ray Jeffcoats, Danny Mabry, Melvin Todd, Robert Earl Todd, Huey McNeese and Ted Marshall.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. J.G. Alexander, Dr. L.B. Adkins and Bobby Everett.
Troy Lee VanDevender

Services for Troy Lee VanDevender will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Barham Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Justin Knight and Malcolm Lewis officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
Mr. VanDevender, 87, of Dalewood, died Saturday, Nov. 5, 2006, at Heritage House in Vicksburg. He was a member and deacon of Marion Baptist Church. He was also a member of Gideons International and a former Dalewood Board member. He worked as a Tom’s distributor for more than 14 years in Natchez. He was a veteran of the U.S. Military and served in World War II. He was born and raised in Gholson and will be greatly missed by his loving family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Chatam VanDevender of Vicksburg; children, David VanDevender and his wife, Cynthia, and Wayne VanDevender and his wife, Peggy, all of Vicksburg; grandchildren, Heather Enos, Dana VanDevender, Leighann VanDevender, Ellen VanDevender, Brandy VanDevender and Virginia VanDevender.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Christopher Columbus and Alma Payne VanDevender and four brothers.
Memorials may be made to Marion Baptist Church.
Visitation will be today from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. at the funeral home and Wednesday one hour prior to the service at the church.

PHILADELPHIA — Services for Mike Sharp will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at McClain-Hays Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. James Young officiating. Burial with Masonic rites will be in Bethsaida Cemetery in Philadelphia.
Mr. Sharp, 48, of Philadelphia, died Sunday, Nov. 5, 2006, in Philadelphia. He was a native of Neshoba County. He graduated from House Academy in 1975 as Valedictorian. He was employed as equipment shop accounting clerk at Yates Construction Co. He was a member of Bethsaida Baptist Church. He was a member of Coffadelia Masonic Lodge and was a Shriner.
Survivors include his wife, Laurie Sharp of Little Rock; a daughter, Candice Frederickson and her husband, Gary, of Meridian; a son, Tanner Jay Sharp of Little Rock; step-sons, Daniel Powell and Dylan Powell, both of Little Rock; sisters, Nancy Joyner and her husband, Jerry, of House, Lynda Crawford and her husband, Don, of Philadelphia, Sherian Cecchini and her husband, Todd, of Bridgeton, N.J.; a brother, Dewayne Sharp and his wife, Judy, of Philadelphia and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Miller, 73, of Meridian, died Monday, Nov. 6, 2006, at Rush Foundation Hospital. She was the former manager of Park Place Shoes.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Willie Cole, a son, James Archie Grady; eight brothers and six sisters.

GULF BREEZE, Fla. — Services for Frankie Rudolph Griffis Jr. will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Rose Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Joel Underwood officiating. Burial will be in St. Mark’s Cemetery in Petersville, Md.
Mr. Griffis, 74, of Pensacola, died Sunday, Nov. 5, 2006, in Pensacola. He was born on Feb. 4, 1932, in Meridian, Miss. He joined the U.S. Air National Guard and worked as a technician at Key Field in Meridian until 1966. He graduated from the Air Force Explosive Ordnance Disposal School in Indian Head, Md., in 1966 and worked as an explosive ordnance technician for the D.C. Air National Guard at Andrews Air Force Base, for seven years before transferring to the Georgia Air National Guard at Dobbins, AFB, in Marietta, Ga. in 1973. He retired from Dobbins AFB in 1986 as a Senior Master Sergeant. After retirement, he lived in Belleville, Ill., from 1991-1998. Prior to that time, he lived in Kennesaw, Ga. He moved to Pensacola in 2002.
Survivors include his wife, Ann Griffis; his sons, Frankie Griffis III and his wife, Mary, of Meridian, Miss., Eric Griffis and his wife, Camille, of Dallas, Ga.; daughters, Wanda Haynes and her husband, Jay, of Meridian, Laura Faulk and her husband, James, of LaGrange, Ky., Stephanie Stewart of Monroe, Ga., Bonnie Young and her husband, Guy, of Hazlehurst, Miss.; brother-in-law, Tom Watson and his wife, Charlotte, of Rosemont, Md.; 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rudolph and Dorothy Griffis and a grandson, John Jay “J.J.” Haynes.

She was an avid philanthropist and a principle stockholder with Mauk Forest Products, Inc. for many years. She was co-owner of Wilson Lovett Environmental Design/Planning of Laguna Beach, Calif.
Survivors include her favorite nephews, Wayne Lovett and Wilson Lovett; several friends, business associates and her cat, Snuffy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Callie Morgan Daniels and Calvin Ephraim Daniels; seven brothers and three sisters.

Mrs. Price, 86, of Laurel, died Friday, Nov. 3, 2006, at Guardian Angel Hospice in Marion.

Francis Eugene Parker

QUITMAN — Services for Francis Eugene Parker were held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Quitman. Burial was in Enterprise Cemetery. Wright’s Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Parker, 76, of Quitman, died Saturday, Nov. 4, 2006, in his home. He was born on Oct. 9, 1930, in Stonewall. He grew up with his childhood sweetheart, Delores Davis in Stonewall. He graduated from Enterprise High School in 1948, and attended Mississippi State University. He returned home to marry Delores at Stonewall Baptist Church. He worked at Erwin Mills in Stonewall before taking over the family business after his father’s death. Odorless Cleaners was then moved to Quitman in 1960. He drove delivery routes from Stonewall, Enterprise, Heidelberg, Vossburg, Pachuta and surrounding areas. He was an active owner-operator until his retirement in 1995.
Mr. Parker was known as a man strong in his faith and was a great inspiration to his family and all that knew him. He was a long time member of First Baptist Church of Quitman, where he taught the Francis Parker’s Men Adult Sunday School Class for more than 35 years until his health prevented him. He loved the Lord and studying his Bible and shared his wealth of knowledge with others.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Delores Parker of Quitman; a son, Gary Parker and his wife, Jerry Kaye, of Hattiesburg; daughters, Vicki Mathis and her husband, Donnie, of Meridian, Jan Bishop and her husband, Tony, of Waynesboro and Dana Rodgers and her husband, Gary, of Quitman; grandchildren, Ryan Mathis and his wife, Reanna, Lauren Mathis, Keri Mathis, all of Meridian, Chris Parker and Craig Parker, both of Hattiesburg, Brent Bishop and Cory Bishop, both of Waynesboro, Leah Rodgers, Katelyn Rodgers, both of Quitman; great-grandchildren, Gage Parker, Talon Parker, Ethan Parker, all of Hattiesburg, Gavin Mathis of Meridian; sisters, Deloris Ross of Laurel and Rita Reed of Hattiesburg.

Mrs. Scruggs, 83, of Meridian, died Saturday, Nov. 4, 2006, at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center.
Survivors include her daughters, Sandra Chapman and Naomi Shadow, both of Meridian; sisters, Opal Graham of Meridian, Janelle Thomson, of Chunky; grandchildren, Connie Bowling and her husband, David, and Joe Don Shadow and five great-grandchildren.

FLORENCE, Ala. — Graveside services for Nannie Mae Tinsley were held Monday at 3 p.m. at Magnolia Cemetery with the Revs. David McCubbin and Tim McCafferty officiating. Greenhill Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Tinsley, 92, of Greenhill, died Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2006, at El Roposo Nursing Facility. She was born Nannie Mae Pigford on Aug. 13, 1914, to Lee and Martha Pigford at Whynot. She was retired from Burnley Shirt Factory and was a member of First Baptist Church of Meridian.
Survivors include her step-son, Richard Tinsley of Ocean Springs, Miss., step-nephew, Michael Allen Tinsley and his wife, Lori, of Houston, Texas; nephews, Hiram L. “Sonny” Pigford and his wife, Pamela B. of Florence, Thomas H. Pigford and his wife, Mary Ann, of Memphis, Tenn. and nieces, Jean Carmichael and JoAnn Beck both of Muscle Shoals.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clayton Henery Tinsley and one brother, Hiram H. Pigford.
