KCats, Lady Cats cruise to easy wins

The Kemper County Lady Wildcats and Wildcats opened the season with wins in the Fourth Annual Kemper County Tip-Off Classic.
The Quitman girls, West Point boys, East Oktibbeha girls, East Oktibbeha boys, West Lauderdale boys and Noxubee County girls also each picked up a win in the classic on Saturday.
Kemper County boys 86
West Lowndes 65
Kemper County built a 15-points halftime lead and held off a late charge by West Lowndes to win its season opener.
The Panthers cut the lead down to 68-60 in the fourth quarter but the Wildcats responded with an 11-0 run led by six points from Lewis Little to secure the victory.
Javon Payne led Kemper County with 23 points while Thomas Jenkins scored 17 and ReKenneth Wren added 16.
Jeremy Smart scored 14 points to lead West Lowndes.
Kemper County girls 58
West Lowndes 24
Kemper County jumped out to a 16-3 lead at the end of the first quarter and rolled to a 58-24 victory over the Lady Panthers.
The Lady Wildcats led 34-11 at half and rolled to the victory despite shooting 1-for-16 from three-point range.
Javita Eades scored 16 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to lead the Lady Wildcats while Brittany Bohannon scored 15 and had six steals in the victory.
Corey Nevills scored seven points to lead West Lowndes while Latoya Young added six.
Quitman girls 71
West Point 67
West Point held a lead over Quitman for most of the game but the Lady Panthers outscored the Lady Waves 27-20 in the fourth quarter to pick up a 71-67 win.
West Point led 32-28 at half but could not hold on for the victory in the first game of the classic.
Sooby Cooks poured in 35 points to lead the Lady Panthers while Matika Sterling added 10.
Tanisha Young had 24 points for West Point while Jasmine Hoskins added 13.
West Point boys 65
Quitman 53
West Point jumped out to an early lead and held off Quitman for a 65-53 victory.
The Waves led 16-7 at the end of the first quarter and stretched its lead to 30-19 at half but Quitman outscored West Point 21-15 in the third quarter to cut the lead to five points going into the final quarter.
The Waves outscored the Panthers 20-13 to secure the victory in the fourth quarter.
Theodore Lenoir scored 26 points for West Point while Lloyd Rodgers scored 11.
Radarius Owens had 11 points to lead Quitman while Bershad Howze added 10.
East Oktibbeha girls 58
Lake 42
East Oktibbeha scored 35 points in the first half and picked up a 58-42 win in the third game in the classic on Saturday.
East Oktibbeha led 35-20 at the break and cruised to the 16-point victory.
April Sykes scored 37 points for East Oktibbeha in the victory while Yolanda Jones scored 24 points to lead Lake.
East Oktibbeha boys 84
Choctaw Central 74
Jeniro Bush went off for 41 points to lead East Oktibbeha to an 84-74 win.
East Oktibbeha outscored Choctaw 21-15 in the fourth quarter to secure the victory.
Gurdy Farmer led the Warriors with 23 points while Jerrod McMillan had 15 points in the loss.
West Lauderdale boys 55
Newton County 50
West Lauderdale trailed Newton County early in the ball game but fought back for a 55-50 victory over the Cougars.
The Knights trailed 28-23 at half but came back to take the lead with an 11-5 third quarter and secured the victory by outscoring the Cougars 21-17 in the final quarter.
Tarrance Brown scored 12 points for West Lauderdale while Chris Brewer had 11 and Ricky Gardner added 10.
Devarus Walker led Newton County with 16 points while Rashad Robinson added 12.
Noxubee County girls 94
Newton County 40
Noxubee County got the offense going on Saturday and rolled to a big 94-40 win over Newton County.
Noxubee scored 31 points in the second quarter and 23 in the third quarter on its way to the 54-point victory.
Newton County trailed just 18-12 at the end of the first quarter before Noxubee County got rolling.
Shiraz Williams scored 29 points to lead Noxubee while Lisa Murray added 13 and Terrica Naylor scored 11.
Sha Coleman hed 15 for Newton County while Chelsea Pugh added 10.
