Training revs up at Chunky River Harley Davidson

Chunky River Harley Davidson is offering a new rider training program from River’s Edge, the Harley Davidson Academy of Motorcycling, called the Rider’s Edge New Rider Course.

The first class was held during the weekend of Sept. 28-Oct. 1. Because class sizes will be limited to six students, interested first-time riders are encouraged to call Hazel Brumfield at (601) 482-4131, ext. 246 for more information.

“We’re excited about offering the New Rider Course through our dealership,” said Meurice LeFevre, the owner of Chunky River Harley Davidson. “This course not only helps new riders immediately develop riding skills, it also establishes a reliable support network that can provide advice and suggestions on the motorcycle experience in general.”

The New Rider Course is based on the proved curriculum of the Motorcycle Safety Foundation’s (MSF) Motorcycle Rider Course. All New Rider Course instructors are MSF and Harley-Davidson certified. Classes are held biweekly.

“The class really eliminates the potential intimidation involved in riding a motorcycle for the first time,” LeFevre said. “Students learn the proper way to operate a motorcycle and have the opportunity to practice riding in a controlled environment.”

The Rider’s Edge New Rider Course is designed specifically to meet the needs of novice riders with no prior experience. The course schedule includes extra time to practice with riding exercises, to become familiar with the different types of motorcycles, accessories, and riding gear, and to get a behind-the-scenes-look at the dealership. The training motorcycle used in the New Rider Course is the Buell Blast. The Blast has a low center of gravity, is easy to maneuver and has two seat heights.

“Novices will love learning to ride on the Blast,” said Buddy Shirley, the Rider’s Edge New Rider Course Instructor.
