COLUMBUS — Four area residents were among 114 students from across the state who received diplomas at The Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science’s 2006 Graduation Ceremony.
Kacee Mott is the daughter of Sophia Myatt. She previously attended
Southeast Lauderdale High School. Kacee plans to attend Centenary College in Shreveport, La., and major in biology and minor in neuroscience.
Ashley Brown is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Gains. Ashley came to MSMS from Southeast Lauderdale High School. She plans to study mathematics and chemistry at The University of Mississippi.
Erin Williams is the daughter of Phillip and Robbie Williams. Erin is a former student at Clarkdale Attendance Center. She plans to attend Mississippi University for Women and major in nursing.
Chris Martin is the son of Tim and Fay Martin. He came to MSMS from Clarkdale Attendance Center. He plans to attend the University of Mississippi and hopes to one day become a cosmetic surgeon.

DECATUR — Overall Character winners at Newton County Elementary School for the 2005-2006 school year were: Kaityln Gressett, kindergarten; Madison Mann, first grade; Nathaniel Davis, first grade; Olivia Cain, second grade; Jacob Howell, third grade; Tori George, fourth grade; and Lucas Aycox, fifth grade.

JACKSON — Emily M. Maples and Brent V. McCary, both of Meridian, were recently named to the President’s List for the spring 2006 semester at Millsaps College.
Students must earn at least a grade point average of 3.85 for the semester and earn grades of C or higher in each course to attain President’s List status. Furthermore, they must meet the standard, in the judgment of the Dean of the College, of being a good citizen of the college community.

LIVINGSTON — Savannah Michelle Satcher and Joshua David Smith, both of Meridian, were recently awarded Trustees Scholarships to attend the University of West Alabama in Livingston. These awards, based on academic achievement and proven leadership potential, come from the UWA Admissions Office.
Satcher, valedictorian of her graduating class at Clarkdale High School, receives a $14,000 academic scholarship.
Smith, Student Government Association president and a graduate of Calvary Christian School, plans to major in nursing at UWA with his $10,000 leadership award.

DECATUR — Students who were in perfect attendance at Newton County Elementary School for the 2005-2006 school year were: Trey Watson, second grade; Jacob Willis, third grade; Cesar Diaz, fourth grade; Keith Bishop, fourth grade; Teonika Norman, fourth grade; Lucero Diaz, fifth grade; and Kimberly Croft, fifth grade.

JACKSON — Lacey E. Cook was recently named to the Dean’s List for the spring 2006 semester at Millsaps College. Students must earn at least a grade point average of 3.5 for the semester, be enrolled full-time, and earn grades of C or higher in each course to attain Dean’s List status. Furthermore, they must meet the standard, in the judgment of the Dean of the College, of being a good citizen of the College community

DECATUR — Racking up top honors in the State Art Contest sponsored by the Mississippi Federation of Women’s Clubs were Newton County Elementary Students were: Nicole Dearman, first place kindergarten; Kayla Brown, fourth place second grade; and Alan Clayton, second grade second place. The students were sponsored on the local level by the Decatur Woman’s Progressive Club. The students won top honors locally, advanced on to the District Art Contest and were state winners.

DECATUR — Students receiving the eighth grade Girl and Boy Citizenship Awards for 2005-2006 at Awards Night at Newton County High School were Melanie Nelson, daughter of Joel and Vicki Nelson, and Jason Mann, son of Larry Mann and the late Rosemary Mann.
