ECCC kicks off Kids’ College

DECATUR — A trip to the Big Red Fire Museum and Sciples Water Mill in Louisville Tuesday kicked off Kids’ College activities at East Central Community College.
Nearly 100 youngsters have signed up for Kids’ College, said Gene Davis, dean of Adult and Continuing Education and program sponsor. Geared to children 5 and up, activities for Kids’ College are designed to be educational and fun. The cost to participate in Kids’ College classes is $30 per child.
July 10-14
Two sports camps are scheduled July 10-14.
Golf lessons for ages 5 to 8 will be provided from 8:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m., and for ages 9 to 12, from 10:30 a.m.-noon. Instruction will be provided by James Moore, ECCC golf coach and Forest Country Club golf professional.
A “Little Warrior” basketball camp will be conducted by Johnny Slaughter, boys’ basketball coach at Newton County High School. Instruction for ages 9 to 12 is set for 8:30 -10:30 a.m., and for ages 5 to 8, from 10:30 a.m.-noon.
July 17-21
Three camps are scheduled July 17-21.
Drawing and Painting for Children for ages 5 to 8 is scheduled from 8:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m., and from 10:30 a.m.-noon for ages 9 to 12. Sarah Hickox is instructor.
A Tumble Cheer Camp is offered from 8:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m. for ages 9 to 12, and from 10:30 a.m.-noon for ages 5 to 8. Kristin Bufkin, ECCC cheerleader captain, will provide instruction.
Football fundamentals will be provided during a “Little Warrior” football camp, directed by Terry Underwood, ECCC head football coach. Instruction for ages 9 to 12 will be held from 8:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m., and from 10:30 a.m. -noon for ages 5 to 8.
July 24-28
Three camps are also scheduled July 24-28, the final week of Kids’ College classes.
Creative Dance classes are provided for ages 5 to 8, from 8:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m., and for ages 9 to 12, from 10:30 a.m.-noon. Julie Weaver, owner of Dance, ETC in Forest, serves as instructor.
A class in music, art and drama is planned for ages 9 to 12, from 8:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m., and for ages 5 to 8, from 10:30 a.m.-noon. Len Bobo, ECCC music keyboard instructor, will serve as instructor.
A tennis camp conducted by Pete Mazella, tennis coach at Newton County Academy, concludes Kids’ College activities. Instruction for ages 5 to 8 is provided from 8:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m., and from 10:30 a.m.-noon for ages 9 to 12.
