May is my favorite month

The month of May is my favorite. I love the warmer weather and of course the beautiful May flowers. It also makes me look forward to all the wonderful summer activities that lie ahead.

There are so many 4-H Events that our 4-H’ers are looking forward to. Again this year our 4-H Junior Council has a Relay for Life Team. We have been busy raising money for Relay and can’t wait until June 9 at Ray Stadium to celebrate the money our community has collected to fight cancer.

We have quite a few 4-H members who will be competing in contests at 4-H Club Congress at Mississippi State University and at District Project Achievement Day at Jones Junior College. Our 4-H’ers are busy as little bees polishing their speeches, perfecting their posters, practicing their presentations, and putting the finishing touches on their projects.

Our 4-H’ers invite you to come by the Meridian Museum of Art May 23 through May 26, 2006, to view their Photography Exhibit. The reception will be Tuesday, May 23, at 5 p.m. We would love for you to drop by and see the magnificent photographs our young photographers have taken. In fact Daniel Burns, Lydia Burns, Laurie Gross, and Summer Lucky’s photographs have been featured in the winter edition of Landmarks Magazine.

Later this summer Drew Phillips, Wes Pierce, and Nathanial Kennedy will be participating in the State Invitational Shooting Sports Competition in Pearl. At the Southeast District Competition they each placed in their disciple age category. Drew placed first in Rifle, Air Rifle, and Air Pistol; Wes placed third in Rifle, and Nathanial placed third in pistol. They are members of the Lauderdale County Rifles and Reels Club.

Our 4-H Horse members are gearing up for the 4-H District Horse Show July 6-8 in Hattiesburg in hopes for qualifying for the State Show to be held in Jackson, MS the following week.

Of course there are many more 4-H events to talk place this summer and you will hear more about all of them in the months to come.
