Julian Edward Walker

YORK, Ala. — Services for Julian Edward Walker were held Thursday at 3 p.m. at York Baptist Church. Burial will be in York Cemetery. Bumpers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Walker, of York, died Monday, April 24, 2006, at Rush Foundation Hospital in Meridian, Miss. He served in the Thirteenth Airborne Division with the U.S. Army during World War II as a paratrooper. He was a graduate of the school of Banking of the South and attended Auburn University. He was president and chairman of the board of directors of the Bank of York for more than 60 years. He was active with the Alabama Bankers Association and served as Director of the Independent Bankers Association of Alabama. He also served for 25 years as York City Councilman. He served two terms as president of the York Lions Club, one term as president of the York Chamber of Commerce, one term as chairman of Sumter County Charity Fund and four consecutive years as chairman of the Deacons at York Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Inez Evans Walker; his son, Dr. Julian Edward Walker Jr. and his wife, Jean Robinson Walker; a sister, Francis Walker Shannon; a daughter-in-law, Sara Hardin Walker; grandchildren, the Rev. Robin Walker Palmer and her husband, David, Dr. Leslie Walker Bickford and her husband, Heath, Marty Walker and his wife, Christy, Kevin McElroy and his wife, Aubrey, Lynne Walker and her husband, Juan; great-grandchildren, Mabry Palmer, Leslie Palmer, Kevin Harmon McElroy and Baby Bickford.

He was preceded in death by his son, Rick Walker; a granddaughter, Julia Mabry Walker and his parents, Arthur Preston Walker and Anie Dearman Walker.

Memorials may be made to York Baptist Church.

Pallbearers were Dan Shannon, Hunter Malone, Jacky Smith, Don Hardin, Allison Derby, Ralph Parten, R.B. Webb and Glenn Long.

Honorary pallbearers were deacons of York Baptist Church, G.F. Williams, Billy Rawson, J.C. McElroy Jr. and Bessie Williams.



Annie Laura Jones

YORK, Ala. — Graveside services for Annie Laura Jones will be held today at 11 a.m. at Briggs Chapel Cemetery in Porterville, Miss. Bumpers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Ms. Jones, 79, of Marrero, La., died Thursday, April 20, 2006, in Merrero.

Survivors include her son, Larry Jones; a daughter, Harriet Turner and three grandchildren.



Julia McKee Watkins

CLERMONT, Fla. — A memorial service for Julia McKee Watkins is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, May 13, 2006 at 2 p.m. at Bailey Presbyterian Church in Bailey, Miss. Brewer and Sons Funeral Homes and Cremation Services are in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Watkins, 84, died Tuesday, April 18, 2006 at Health Central Park Nursing Home near Orlando Florida. Mrs. Watkins was born in Fort Morgan Alabama, however, she lived most of her life in Lauderdale, Neshoba, and Kemper Counties Mississippi where she was an active mother and housewife. She was a long time member of Bailey Presbyterian Church in Bailey, Miss. Later in life, she moved to DeKalb where she was a housewife and served the community as a substitute teacher and volunteer. She moved to the Orlando area in January of 2001.

Survivors include her daughter Frances Couch Stone and her husband, Randy of Apopka, Florida; her daughter June Gibson of Brandon, Mississippi; her son, Dennis and his wife April, of Kissimmee, Florida; her brother, James Grant III and his wife Maude of Collinsville, Mississippi; grandchildren Carolyn Church and her husband, Craig of Jackson, Mississippi; Sammi Caruso and her husband, Quentin of Orlando, Florida; Arlan Gibson of Smyrna, Georgia; Dana Bedell, of Gulf Breeze, Florida; Trisha May and her husband, Dewight, of Winter Haven, Florida; great-grandchildren, Ashton Vehrs and Collin Church of Brandon; Kate and Austin Caruso of Orlando; McKee Gibson of Smyrna, Georgia; Kayla, Trenton, and Hunter Bedell, of Gulf Breeze, Florida; Madie May of Winter Haven Florida; numerous relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James Grant, Jr. and Nora George Grant; husbands Hubert McKee and Lamar Watkins.
