Sgt. Mannie Hampton Sr.
Military services for Mannie Hampton Sr. will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Clark’s Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain John Sims officiating. Burial will be in Biloxi National Cemetery at 3 p.m. with full military honors.
Mr. Hampton, 89, of Meridian, died Thursday, April 20, 2006, at the G.V. “Sonny” Montgomery Veterans Administration Medical Center in Jackson. He was born in Orangeburg, S.C. where he completed his formal education. Prior to enlisting into the United States Army Air Corps., he met and married his wife, Leona Jackson and moved to Meridian. He had strong beliefs in the National Security of his country and served for more than 21 years and seven months during World War II, the Korean War and in Vietnam, prior to his retirement.
Following his military retirement, Sgt. Hampton returned to Meridian and began a second career in the maintenance department of the Meridian Public School District. He retired after more than 15 years and spent the remainder of his retirement gardening, painting, restoring furniture and watching baseball games on television. He was a proud father and grandfather and enjoyed monitoring the careers and successes and offering life experience guidance when necessary to his children and grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Leona Hampton; sons, Mannie Hampton Jr. and his wife, Gay, of Century, Fla., Fredrick Hampton of Gulfport; daughters, Margaret Williams, of Orangeburg, S.C., Lorraine Hampton of Chicago, Annie McGruder and her husband, Winston, of Jacksonville, Fla., Leona Smith and her husband, James, of Gulfport, Patricia Shelton of Meridian, Diane Hopkins and her husband, Richard, of Austin, Texas; a daughter-in-law, Ruby Hampton of Sacramento, Calif.; 20 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and two nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eddie and Maggie Hampton; brothers, Eddie Hampton Jr., Isaac Hampton, Theodore Hampton; a sister, Lilly Mae Hampton and a son, Theodore Hampton, named in honor of his brother.
Visitation will be today from 6 p.m.-7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Services for Johnny “Boney” Hodges will be held today at 11 a.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Newton with the Rev. Michael Pickens officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Clark’s Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Hodges, 55, of Meridian, died Wednesday, April 19, 2006, in Lauderdale.

YORK, Ala. — Services for Waweaise Luanell Perry Wright will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Bumpers Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Dr. Richard D. Welch and Brad Campbell officiating. Burial will be in Chestnut Grove Cemetery.
Mrs. Wright, 79, of York, died Monday, April 24, 2006, at Rush Foundation Hospital.
Survivors include her daughters, Patsy Conquest, Edna Bedwell, Mitsy Brooks and Fay Deloach; sons, Daniel Wright and Ronny Wright, 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers and one sister.
Visitation will be today from 6 p.m.- 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

QUITMAN — Graveside services for Etta Blanch Heindl will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at East Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Wright’s Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Heindl, 74, of Magee, died Monday, April 24, 2006, at Magee General Hospital.
Survivors include her brothers, Bob Raley of Cypress, Calif., Noel Jerald Raley of Feriday, La., Ike Raley of Mize; sisters, Pat Ingle of Magee, Opal Lowery of Meridian and Katherine Morgan of Bailey.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Heindl.
James Everett Rickles

Graveside services for James Everett Rickles will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Magnolia Cemetery with the Rev. Ed Rickles officiating. Stephens Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Rickles, 85, of Meridian, died Monday, April 24, 2006, at Rush Foundation Hospital. He was a retired taxi driver. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served with the 8th Army, 24th Division, 17th Regiment, in the South Pacific during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Elouise Stevens Rickles of Meridian; daughters, Gay Rigdon of the House Community and Brenda Fortenberry of Philadelphia; a son, James E. Rickles Jr. of Meridian and a brother, Cecil Ward of Meridian.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James W. and Beulah S. Rickles; a sister, Winnie Reynolds and a brother, Ervin Rickles.
Visitation will be today from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Dr. Norman John Doorenbos
OPELIKA, Ala. — Services for Dr. Norman John Doorenbos “Dr. D” will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church with the Revs. Earl Ballard and Mike Roberts officiating. Burial will be Garden Hills Cemetery. Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Dr. Doorenbos, 78, of Opelika, died Saturday, April 22, 2006, at Rush Foundation Hospital. He was born on May 13, 1928, to Garrett and Victoria Doorenbos of Flint, Mich. He was born again into Christianity at Trinity United Methodist Church in 1996.
He received his Ph.D. in medicinal chemistry from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and began his teaching career there in 1947. He mentored more than 60 Ph.D. students during his career, which included positions at the University of Maryland, University of Mississippi, Southern Illinois University, and the University of Wisconsin.
He came to Auburn University as the Dean of the Graduate School in 1986. In addition to his chemistry background, he was an international expert on plant chemistry and invented a number of organic photographic dyes, steroid-related compounds that are still safely used in medicine today to treat prostate hypertrophy, cancer and other diseases, and initiated the marijuana research program at the University of Mississippi in 1968. He is the author of hundreds of scientific research papers. Besides spending time with his family and grandchildren, Dr. D. found his happiest moments doing the Lord’s work.
Survivors include his wife, Judy M. Doorenbos; a sister, Virginia Adamson; a son, Dr. David Doorenbos; daughters, Beverly, Phyllis, Donna, Alice, Gail and Martha; two step-daughters, Mandee Wildman and Lindsee Alexander and 10 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church.

PHILADELPHIA — Services for Jaylin Jase Clemmons will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church with the Rev. David Hamm officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. John E. Stephens Chapel Funeral Services is in charge of arrangements.
Infant Clemmons, 8 weeks, of Philadelphia, died Saturday, April 22, 2006, at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.
Survivors include his mother, Kimberly Clemmons; father, Kevin McMillan; two brothers; grandparents, Frances Clemmons, Sullivan Tubby, Betty McMillan and William McMillan and Mary Tubby.
He was preceded in death by his twin brother.
Visitation will be in the home of Frances Clemmons in the Pearl River Community.

PHILADELPHIA — Memorial services for Florence Mars will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at McClain-Hays Funeral Service Chapel with the Revs. Clay Lee and Fred Britton officiating.
Miss Mars, 83, of Philadelphia, died Sunday, April 23, 2006, in her home. She was a native of Philadelphia. She was a reservationist for Delta Airlines during World War II. She was a cattle farmer, tree farmer, stockyard owner, landlord, photographer, and author of three published books. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Philadelphia.
Survivors include several first and second cousins and their families.
She was preceded in death her parents, Adam and Neva Mars.
Visitation will be Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Services for Howard Dewitt “Dozer Man” Tisdale will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Stephens Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Hopewell Cemetery in Scott County.
Mr. Tisdale, 78, of Meridian, died Monday, April 24, 2006, at Rush Foundation Hospital.
