A hearing Tuesday in Wayne County Circuit Court before Judge Robert Bailey has resulted in the arrest of two jailers on charges of having sex with prisoners.

The alleged sexual contact occurred Sunday.

Jason S. Lindsey and Carl Brunner were certified officers at the Wayne County jail. Lindsey, who was charged with two counts of “sexual penetration of an incarcerated person,” was being held Tuesday on $40,000 bond. Brunner was charged with one count of the same offense and was being held on $20,000 bond.

Assistant District Attorney Andy Davis represented the state Tuesday at a hearing to determine whether “probable cause” existed to charge the defendants in the case.

Wayne County Sheriff John Stein Farrior testified during the hearing. The sheriff became aware of the accusations, Davis said, after one of the female prisoners told her mother what had happened, and the other told a local pastor. The mother and pastor reported the alleged incidents to the sheriff, who then interviewed the prisoners and the jailers.

Davis said Farrior testified that Lindsey admitted having oral sex with two prisoners; Brunner admitted having sexual intercourse with a third.

Lindsey and Brunner were arrested at the conclusion of the hearing, Davis said, and both were transferred to the same jail where the alleged offenses occurred. Wayne County jail officials declined to say whether either had bonded out.

Sexual penetration of an incarcerated person is a felony, and the defendants face possible indictment by a Wayne County grand jury. The charge carries a possible sentence on conviction of five years in prison, a $5,000 fine or both.
