Not impressed with proposed tax ‘give and take’

I vehemently object to the new proposed food/tobacco tax legislation.

The architects of this legislation are self-serving only. A fourth-grader can easily see through such schemes of give and take. You’re going to give me 31/2 cents off my unprepared-food dollar, then put 62 cents onto my pack of cigarettes the first year, while pyramiding upward to $1 on my pack-a-day cigarettes the second year. I suppose then the windfall of dollars can be thrown wherever they serve a political career best.

The American system of government was formed to do for the people collectively what they can’t do for themselves individually. Then the politician took the reins to perpetuate themselves in office to dictate to the people.

I often see and hear only the true meaning of government come from Ray Boswell, a Lauderdale County supervisor, when he says, “I’m looking out for the people’s best interest,” in all his participation of administrative matters.
