Meridian Mayor John Robert Smith and City Clerk Ed Skipper helped officiate a mock election for the second-grade class of Jeanna White at Poplar Springs Elementary School recently.

The election was part of the class study of neighborhoods, community and community leaders.

A mayor and five city councilmen were elected officers of the fictional town of Wizardville. Mayor Lauren Fowler and councilmen Nakita Davis, Quadejah Thames, Jahquaveon Fulgham, Kaitlin Fowler and Tiffany Price were sworn in by Judge Robbie Jones.

In addition to helping officiate the mock election, Smith, Skipper and Jones discussed the duties of their jobs with the students.
