UWA takes win over Delta State

LIVINGSTON, Ala. — Senior Dustin Roberts blasted a walk-off, three-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning, to lift West Alabama to a 3-2 victory over Delta State (11-7) on Sunday afternoon.
Clark Humber led off the ninth inning for the Tigers with a single to right-center, and advanced to third on a Clint Moody double. That set the stage for Roberts, who connected for his fifth round-tripper of the season.
Ryne Lawson (2-0) picked up the win in relief for UWA, throwing four innings, allowing no runs on two hits, while striking out five. Stephen Barnett got the start for the Tigers, going five innings, giving up two runs and eight hits, to go along with six strikeouts.
Moody led UWA at the plate, going 2-for-4, with the double, while Humber and Roberts finished with the only other hits for West Alabama. Humber, Damon Brabson and Roberts each scored one run to round out the top performers for UWA.
Justin Smith took a no-decision for the Statesmen, going eight innings, allowing one run and two hits, while striking out seven. Colby Beach took the loss, giving up two runs on two hits.
Bryan Williamson went 2-for-3 to lead the way offensively for DSU, including a double and one RBI. Clay Dozier finished 2-for-4 with a double, while Hunter Jobes added a double and one RBI. Jobes and Patrick Williams scored the lone runs for the Statesmen, who out-hit the Tigers 10-4.
The Statesmen will return to action on Tuesday at Union University in Jackson, Tenn.
