UWA women fall

LIVINGSTON, Ala. — The West Alabama softball team opened GSC play by dropping a pair of home contests to Valdosta State (10-6, 3-1 GSC) on Saturday afternoon. The Lady Blazers picked up a 5-0 victory in the opener, before cruising to a 14-0 (five-inning) win in the twinbill.
The Tigers managed only four hits in game one, while committing four errors, before failing to record a single hit in game two, while committing five errors.
Debbie Shisler (1-5) took the loss for UWA in game one, going five innings, allowing five runs (two earned) on five hits, to go along with four strikeouts. Brittany McGee threw the final two innings, giving up only three hits.
Heather Shugart paced the way offensively for West Alabama, finishing 2-for-3, while Jess Butrica and Shannon Goggins each went 1-for-3.
Allison McKean picked up her fourth win on the year for VSU, throwing a complete game four-hitter, while striking out five.
Brianna Collis finished 2-for-3 for the Lady Blazers, including a double, one RBI and one run scored. Holly Willis finished 2-for-4, with an RBI, while Peaches Ramsey went 1-for-3 with an RBI and one run scored.
Aubree Hudson (1-3) took the loss in game two for UWA as she was tagged for six runs (five earned) on three hits in only 1.1 innings of work. McGee went the next 1.2 innings, allowing four runs (two earned) on five hits, while Shisler threw the final two innings, giving up four unearned runs on four hits.
Kristen Lindsey improved to 2-0 on the season for VSU, following her no-hit shutout performance in game two, which included six strikeouts.
Willis lead the way for the Lady Blazers offensively, going 2-for-4, including a pair of home runs, to go along with four RBI and two runs scored. Lindsey Lloyd also finished 2-for-4, including a home run, to go along with four RBI, while also scoring a pair of runs.
West Alabama falls to 4-9 overall (0-2 GSC) and returns to action today when they host the Lady Blazers in a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m.
