Catlett, Polizzi lead MGA

Justin Catlett and Tony Polizzi fired a first-round 61 to grab the early lead in the MGA Two-Person Scramble being played this weekend at Briarwood Country Club.
Brothers Joel and Steve Nelson shot a 62 and are one shot back, while four duos fired 63s during the first round Saturday and are two shots back in the 82-team event.
Tied for third are Aaron Davidson and Jack Combest, Chris Hooks and Robbie Whitehead, Bobby Espy and Willie Frazier, and Dennis Foster and Don Bounds. Neil Pettigrew and Rusty Hall are a close seventh, just three shots back after shooting a 64.
Rounding out the championship flight are Joe Jackson and Sonny Fisher (65), Billy McWilliams and Joey Mabry (65), Chris McLain and Joe Rush (66) and Randy Warden and Tony Nelson (66).
A pair of 66s lead the first flight: Mac Barnes and Ron Posey fired an opening-round 66, as did the duo of David Hoffman and Gary Thomas. Six teams shot 67 in the first flight.
Seven teams are also tied atop the second flight leaderboard after opening with 69s on Saturday, and there are 11 teams in the second and third flights who shot first-round 70s.
The tournament wraps up today at Briarwood.
