Elected officers of Health Occupation Students of America at Newton County Career and Technical Center are: Tyler Hansford, president; Andrew Marshall, vice president; Lindsey Stevens, secretary; Anna Sellers, treasurer; Lacey Scott, parliamentarian; and Melissa Robinson, historian; Tammie Edwards is Allied Health instructor and HOSA adviser.



Caleb Dulaney of Collinsville recently made the Dean’s List for the fall 2005 semester at Millsaps College.

Students must earn a grade point average of at least 3.5 for the semester, be enrolled full-time and earn grades of C or higher in each course to attain Dean’s List status. They must also meet the standard, in the judgment of the dean of the college, of being a good citizen of the college community.



Zack Kilpatrick of Philadelphia and Clancy Cleveland of Union were recently elected Mr. and Miss East Central Community College.

Kilpatrick, a liberal arts major, is a Dean’s List scholar. He serves as president of Students Against Destructive Decisions and is a member of the Presidents Council, EC Environmental Club, Baptist Student Union, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Phi Theta Kappa. He is a member of the Warrior cheerleading squad and was a member of the Warrior soccer team his freshman year.

Kilpatrick is a graduate of Neshoba Central High School. He is the son of Willis and Lynette Kilpatrick of Philadelphia.

Cleveland, a secondary math education major, is treasurer of the Student Body Association and vice president of the Student Education Association. She is a member of the Centralettes, Warrior Corps, Phi Theta Kappa, Baptist Student Union and the Lady Warrior tennis team.

She was selected a freshman class favorite and was elected a homecoming maid for two years. She was also freshman class treasurer.

Cleveland is a graduate of Union High School. She is the daughter of Jerry and Cindy Cleveland of Union.

Mr. and Miss ECCC will be featured in the 2005 edition of the college yearbook, the Wo-He-Lo.



January Character Education winners for Newton County Elementary School are: Drake Jackson, kindergarten; Logan Tillman, first grade; Makayla Weaver, second grade; Jodi Lacouture, third grade; Keith Bishop, fourth grade; and Sarah Freeman, fifth grade. The character trait for January was loyalty.



Winners of a reading fair held at Northeast Middle School were:

n Grades sixth to eighth — Will Abbey, first place; Mia Lynch, second; Rachel Clatterbuck, third; and Katelynn Schneider, April Ball and Brandon Walk, honorable mentions.

n Fifth grade — Adam Shaw, first place; Taylor Baker, second; Troynesha Lucas, third; and Xavier Horn, Destiny Brewster and Paige Fryer, honorable mentions.

n Group projects — Brittany Warren and Brooke Walters, first place; Darrius Miller, Jeffrey Bance and Michael Valdez, second; Alexis Overstreet and Ty Bryant, thirds.

n Family projects — Ashley Swearingen, first place.



The following students are members of the East Central Community College Warrior Corps, a group of students who assist in recruiting and serve as hosts for various campus events.

Kristina Moore of Enterprise; Krista Chaney, Misty Mayes, Kelsi Ables, Rachel McElhenney, John Shellenback, Anne Claire Foshee, Sally Jones and Tracy McMahan, all of Newton County Academy; Kristin Bufkin, Ashley May, Traci Crabtree, Maggie McDill, Kurt Nelson, Taylor Nichols, Colby Amis, Joy Cavenaugh, Krisha Dickens and Julia Tucker, all of Newton County; Jennifer Key of Neshoba Central; Tiffany Willis of Philadelphia; Megan Jones of Enterprise; Brittney Harper of Southeast Lauderdale; and Keith Edwards of Noxapater.



Nine East Central Community College students matched wits with other community and junior college representatives at the annual Ken Wooten Scholars Bowl Feb. 10-11 at the University of Mississippi in Oxford.

ECCC Scholars Bowl team members include Elizabeth Puckett and Raquel Hollingsworth, both of Forest; Brittany Alexander of Little Rock; Katie Harper of Meridian; Jordan Gibbs of Forest; Clinton Howell, Andrew Kirkland, William Deweese, all of Philadelphia; and Steven Cullen of Carthage.
