Here’s a look at upcoming events at Meridian Public Schools:
Feb. 8 — Meridian Public School District Parents as Teachers group meeting, 5 p.m., at Newell Chapel CME Church, 1400 13th Ave. “Ketchup on Reading” will be the topic of discussion. Representatives of the Head Start Program will be available for registration of early 3- and 4-year-old toddlers. Refreshments will be served. Today — The MCC Continuing Education class, “Advanced Middle Eastern Dance,” will be held from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. at Damon Fitness Center. Class meets each Wednesday through April 19. For more information, contact Tiffany Harper, (601) 484-8856.

Here’s a look at upcoming events at East Central Community College, Decatur:
Beginning Feb. 6 — A six-week cake decorating class will meet from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Mondays through March 27. Registration is at 6 p.m. in the Gold Room of Mabry Memorial Cafeteria. Beginning Feb. 7 — A 10-week Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) course will be held Tuesday and Thursday evenings, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and will include 16 hours of clinical training at a local nursing home. Observance of Catholic School Week at St. Patrick Catholic Church.
Today — Theme: “Character, Compassion, Values: In Our Nation.” Devotional at 8:10 a.m. at outside cross to honor troops serving around the world. Service Project: Students will write letters and bring items to send service members overseas. Dance hop: Admission will be items students bring to send service members overseas.
Thursday — Theme: “Character, Compassion, Values: In Our Vocations.” Students to invite their pastors to attend mass. Gifts presented and reception to follow.
Friday — Theme: “Character, Compassion, Values: In Our Faculty and Staff.” Staff and students may wear jeans today with new or old Catholic Schools Week T-shirts. Students bring flowers and give notes of appreciation to teachers.
