QUITMAN — Are you an old burned and hard biscuit or are you a delicious coconut cake?
This comes from one of the many stories in Mrs. Onie Norsworthy’s book titled “Notes from Onie’s Corner.”
Mrs. Onie began writing in 1964, and wrote for the Cooper’s Chapel’s monthly news letter from 1988-1992.
“This book was written to encourage and motivate everyone to have a better life while on earth and also in the hereafter,” said Mrs. Onie.
In her story about the burned biscuits or coconut cake, she explains how the burned biscuit is not good for your body just like the works of the flesh are not good for your soul or body, but the coconut cake is delightful and yummy as in the fruit of the spirit. The spirit is good for you and consists of great qualities that pleasantly affect your life on earth and leads to Heaven.
Mrs. Onie added that “there are sermons out there if you find them.”
The book contains articles on how to become a Christian, a Christian to grow more spiritually, to have a happier marriage, or become a better parent. It can also provide inspiration for the depressed and the discouraged, or help to have more self confidence.
“Sprinkled” throughout Mrs. Onie’s book are everyday situations, joy, peace, beauty, laughter, and personal choices.
Her good friend, Shira Campbell, talked Mrs. Onie into getting the book published and it was printed at the end of 2005.
“I have always liked writing,” said Mrs. Onie. “I bought a computer when I was 81 and started typing the stories. My computer crashed and I lost everything. Shira went back and typed everything for me.”
The cross on the cover of the book was drawn by Scott Miller and signifies that the “message of the cross is the heart of the gospel.”
Mrs. Onie was married to Evan Norsworthy for 60 years until his death. She has two sons, Joe and Doug.
