Gordon, Lamb

Brenda Waller Lamb and Marcus Craig Gordon were married Saturday, June 21, 2008, at 2:30 p.m. in the 1856 antebellum sanctuary of Clear Creek Baptist Church in Oxford. The Revs. Charles Lipe, Jeff Hancock of Bluff Springs Church of God of Union, Kent Shepherd of Providence Baptist Church of Hattiesburg and Dr. Marcus Finch of First Baptist Church of Union officiated.

Parents of the couple are Mrs. Marvin Holcombe Waller of Oxford and the late Mr. Waller and Circuit Court Judge and Mrs. Marcus D. Gordon of Union.

Nuptial music was provided by Brenda Hartley of Oxford, pianist; Carole Bryan of Batesville, organist; Jill Shumaker of Philadelphia, flautist; and Mary Jackson and Shawn Kelly of Oxford, vocalists.

Kelly Christopher Lamb of Tupelo gave his mother in marriage. The bride wore a strapless A-line gown embellished with champagne beaded Alencon lace appliqués. The sheer tulle duster with bell sleeves featured matching lace appliqués and ended in a chapel-length train, edged in the lace.

Kristen Lamb Shepherd of Hattiesburg, daughter of the bride, and Cynthia Hartley Waller of Pontotoc served as matrons of honor. Sidney Wolfe McCain of Oxford and Teresa Gordon Parker of Philadelphia attended the bride.

Taylor Marie Mooney of Oxford, Jenna Claire Carpenter of Myrtle and Lara Kelle Parker of Philadelphia served as flower girls.

Mary Hartley Waller of Pontotoc was guest registry attendant and Lanna Elizabeth Parker of Philadelphia was program attendant.

Martin Darin Gordon of Corinth, Texas, and Brian Steven Gordon of Union, brothers of the bridegroom, were best men. Honorary best man was the bridegroom's father.

Groomsmen and ushers were Steven Patrick Dearie of Baton Rouge, La., William Briggs Hopson III of Vicksburg, Bradford Waller Webb and Philip Brian Carpenter, both of Oxford, Samuel Wayne Waller Jr. of Pontotoc, James Christopher Vance of Union, James Ray Tillman of Philadelphia and Clayton Keller Whitehead of Bahama, N.C.

Hollin Sebastien Webb of Oxford was ring bearer. The rings were a gift to the couple from the bridegroom’s maternal grandmother, Mrs. Hugh Matthews of Union, and originated from her marriage to the late Mr. Matthews in 1933.

Friends and family from Union, Philadelphia and Decatur attended an afternoon tea on June 8 honoring the couple at the home of Mrs. Jackie Richardson. On June 20, an evening barbeque and garden party hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Philip Wade Carpenter of Oxford served as a rehearsal dinner and to honor the wedding party. Also attending were Mr. and Mrs. Alton Pollan, Mrs. Reed Davis, Mr. and Mrs. Warner Alford and Mrs. J.W. "Wobble" Davidson, all of Oxford, and Nell Hubbard, Kay Hentz and Edward Lee Rowsey of Batesville.

After a honeymoon cruise to St. Thomas, Dominica, Barbados, St. Lucia, Antigua, St. Kitts, and Puerto Rico, in the Eastern Caribbean.The couple resides in Oxford, where the bride is a career discovery teacher for Lafayette Middle School in Oxford and the bridegroom is as an advanced science teacher and science department chairman at Philadelphia High School.
