Naylor, Burton

Dr. Denise Yvonne Burton of Toomsuba and Donald Ray Naylor Jr. of Meridian were married Saturday, July 19, 2008, at Friendship Baptist Church, with the Rev. Donald Naylor Sr. officiating.

Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Carl Frederick Burton of Toomsuba and the Rev. and Mrs. Donald Naylor Sr. of Meridian.

Grandparents of the bride are the late Mr. and Mrs. Sammie Bourrage of Meridian and the late Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Burton of Toomsuba.

Grandparents of the bridegroom are the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert Naylor Sr. and the late the Rev. and Mrs. William Lamar Dixon.

Music for the ceremony was provided by the chorale. Pianists were Patricia Campbell and Wayne Whitehead, uncle of the bride.

Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a designer ivory couture gown with a scalloped cathedral-length train adorned with Swarovski crystal beading. Her necklace and earrings were a combination of diamonds and pearls.

Serving the bride as maid of honor was Nicole Burton of Toomsuba, sister of the bride. Dr. Elise Lewis of Philadelphia, Pa., served as matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Khaleah Naylor of Jackson, sister of the bridegroom; Demetra Liggins of Houston, Texas; Stephanie Eley and Kenya Merrell, both of Cordova, Tenn.; Terri Bourrage and Lyntreesa Bourrage, both of Meridian; Jatal Guy of Athens, Ga.; Santoria Burton of Toomsuba; Tina Acklin of Nashville, Tenn; and Terrilyn Carlton of Ellicott City, Md.

Junior bridesmaids were Brianna Smith and Maretta Johnson, both of Meridian, and Ashley Wooten of Chicago, Ill.

Flowergirl and ringbearer were Kyla Stokes of Cordova and Chandler Hill of Hammond, La.

The Rev. Adrian Naylor of Meridian served as best man. Groomsmen and ushers were Courtney Bourrage, Dr. Otis Gowdy, Jesse Hill Jr. and David Naylor Jr., all of Meridian; Parren Clark and Desmond Dixon, both of Jackson; Marshall Dean of Atlanta; Kevin Hill of Hammond; Michael Hunter of Marietta, Ga.; Terron McIntyre and William Dixon III, both of Pearl; Antonio Morgan of Galesburg, Ill.; Eldridge Peugh of Missouri City, Texas; Carlo Stokes of Cordova; Trevonne Thompson of River Forest, Ill; Tony Collins of Birmingham, Ala.; and Ian Heisser of Sammamish, Wash.

The bride and bridegroom "jumped the broom," an African-American custom.

A reception was held at the MSU Riley Center following the ceremony. Assisting at the reception were Eris Jordan, John Johnson, Joe Sherman, Deborah Stokes, Christine Naylor and Dessie Johnson. Lavern Bourrage and Gloria Clark, aunts of the bride, presented roses to guests.

After a honeymoon in the Dominican Republic, the couple resides in Pearland, Texas.
