MERIDIAN — Today

    • 1 p.m.- 5 p.m.—A watercolor workshop with Pat Kent will be held at Meridian Activity Center. For more information or  to reserve a spot call (601) 485-1812.

    • 11 a.m.-3 p.m.—East Mississippi Animal Rescue will be having a Pet Adoption at PETCO in the Meridian Crossroads shopping center. Several pets will be available for adoption. An interview and adoption fee will be required to adopt.

    • Noon—The 3rd annual Long Reunion will be held at Clarko State Park. Descendants of Lonnie Long, Nettie Long Collins, Lettie Long Satcher and all other relatives and friends are welcome. Bring a covered dish. Prizes will be awarded. For more information call Annie Crim at (601) 776-6269.

    • 5 p.m.—Members of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Delta Nu Zeta Chapter and the Meridian Museum of Art will host the annual Black History Program at the Museum of Art building. This year's title will be "On Call-Doctors and Nurses." A special invitation is extended to doctors, nurse practitioners, nurses, and other health care providers to attend. Everyone is invited to attend this program and to share in the honoring of medical caregivers.

    • 6 p.m.— Prospect Congregational Methodist Church will be presenting gospel singing by the Barnacastles at the church. For more information call (601) 986-8392.

    • 6 p.m.— The West Moriah Baptist Church will be holding a worship service and benefit program for the Perkins family, who lost everything in a fire, at the church. For more information call Bill Watson at (601) 938-3207.



Sunday, February 21

    • 11:15 a.m.—The Free Gospel Temple Apostolic Church will be holding revival services at the church.

    • 11:30 a.m.—Wahalak Missionary Baptist Church of Butler will observe its Annual Black Awareness Program in conjunction with the regular 11:30 service. Everyone is invited to attend.

    • 3 p.m.—New Hope Baptist Church will hold its annual Black History Program at the church. The program will feature a discussion on the Black presence in the Bible. The public is invited to attend.



Monday, February 22

    • Noon—Students from the local Headstart Centers and Lauderdale County Welcome Center will be celebrating Black History Month with a program to honor the late representative Charles Young. For more information call (601) 632-1142.

    • 6 p.m.-8 p.m.—Meridian Community College Continuing Education session will be holding a Cake Decorating class. The class meets on Mondays at MCC in the Smith Hall Room 108. For more information call (601) 484-8856.

    • 7 p.m.—Overeaters Anonymous Meetings, Monday Nights at 7 p.m. Church of the Mediator.

    • 7 p.m.—The Free Gospel Temple Apostolic Church will be holding revival services at the church.

    • Registration is under way for 6-week pottery classes at Pottery Paws Studio and Gallery. Classes are 2-hours once a week and are instructed by Bebe Gianakos.  Call (601) 485-2111 for more information or to sign-up.

Tuesday, February 23

    • Registration is under way for 6-week pottery classes at Pottery Paws Studio and Gallery.  Classes are 2-hours once a week and are instructed by Bebe Gianakos.  Call 601-485-2111 for more information or to sign-up.

    • 9a.m.-1p.m. —AARP Tax-Aide volunteers will E-file taxes free for low- and middle- income taxpayers. This service will be available at The Salvation Army Activity Center, 120 Sixth Ave. (B Street and Sixth Avenue). Please bring a copy of your 2008 tax return, 2009 tax information including property taxes paid, picture ID, and Social Security Cards for all family members.  First come, first served.     • 10 a.m.-noon or 6 p.m.-9 p.m.—Meridian Community College Continuing Education is holding a  Floral Design  class. Classes meet on Tuesdays. For more information call (601) 482-7445.
