Jackson County jail inmate dies in custody

PASCAGOULA, Miss. —

Sheriff Mike Byrd says a Jackson County jail inmate died while in custody at the county's maximum-security jail.

The Sun Herald reports Pascagoula police had arrested 40-year-old John Morris Lee Jr. on a felony shoplifting charge and he was placed in the Jackson County Adult Detention Center on Dec. 5, 2012.

Around 7:15 a.m. Sunday, Byrd says a cellmate alerted jailers after he realized something appeared to be wrong with Morris.

Byrd says the cause of death was due to heart complications.
