Parents voice concerns about Olive Branch school

HERNANDO, Miss. ( —

Parents of Olive Branch Elementary students have complained to DeSoto County school board members about environmental problems at the school, including mold and rodents, and asked school system officials to do something.

The Commercial Appeal reports (http://bit.ly/11wkLUO) Heather Fox, who has a 7-year-old daughter at the school, told board members Monday she knows some of the conditions she has seen at the school shouldn't be allowed.

Fox said she didn't fault school maintenance workers, who did all they could, but called for school system officials to bring in independent experts to determine what the problems are and fix them.

Fox says more than 200 parents have signed petitions calling for improvements.

Board members listened to Fox's concerns and said they would work to address them.
