Teen arrested on arson charge in apartment fire

PEARL, Miss. —

Pearl police have charged a 16-year-old boy with arson in connection with a fire last week at South Wind apartments.

Pearl Police Department spokesman Butch Townsend says Tuesday that an entire two story building and 14 apartments were damaged by the fire last Friday.

Townsend says witnesses saw the teen fleeing the vacant apartment as smoke began to pour from it.

Townsend says the teen was turned over to the Pearl Municipal Youth Court on Tuesday. His identity was not released because he's a minor.
