Errant shot from hunter hit Panola school bus

BATESVILLE, Miss. — Panola County authorities say an errant shot from a hunter struck a Panola County school bus, grazing at least one student in the back.

The incident was captured on a school bus video. District Attorney John Champion says the video is not being released because the incident is still under investigation.

No charges have been filed in the case.

The 10-year-old boy is listed in satisfactory condition at Le Bonheur Children's Hospital.

Authorities say the incident occurred Monday when the bullet went through a side window of the South Panola bus. The bus was carrying about 15 students.

Sheriff Dennis Darby says the bullet came from the rifle of a hunter who was in a deer stand in the area. He says the hunter is cooperating with authorities.
