Hearing for sex offender accused of killing woman

BRANDON, Miss. — A preliminary hearing is scheduled Tuesday for a convicted sex offender charged with strangling his neighbor in her bedroom.

Cortrell Rose, 30, is charged with numerous counts ranging from capital murder to burglary in the death of 59-year-old Lenora Patsy Edhegard.

Edhegard disappeared from her home in Brandon after a shopping trip on Sept. 24. Her co-workers called police when she didn't show up for work the next morning.

Authorities say Rose was spotted in Edhegard's car and arrested the day after she disappeared. Rankin County Sheriff Bryan Bailey has said Rose led investigators to Edhegard's body in a rural area near Tougaloo College in Madison County.

A judge entered a not guilty plea for Rose at a previous hearing.
