Father, son sentenced on federal meth charges

GULFPORT, Miss. —

A father and son have been sentenced on federal conspiracy charges for their involvement in a methamphetamine distribution ring that operated in Hancock County and elsewhere.

The Sea Coast Echo reports (http://bit.ly/Q8BmLY) that Glen Bonano Sr. and Glen Bonano Jr. were sentenced in federal court in Gulfport this past week.

That brings to five the number of defendants to be sentenced. Four others are expected to be sentenced over the next few months. All nine pleaded guilty in August.

U.S. District Judge Walter Gex sentenced Glen Bonano Jr. to 308 months in federal prison. Glen Bonano Sr. received 120 months.

Prosecutors say the men were part of a network that distributed meth throughout South Mississippi over a two-year period. Prosecutors said the defendants acquired and distributed meth in Hancock County over a two-year period.

Also this past week, Vincent Leblanc and Trevor Cook both received 54-month sentences. Another man, Gavin Meranto, received 120 months. Court records show four other defendants — Nicholas Shiyou, Cameron McLaurin, John "China" Anderson and Billy Paul Lee — are awaiting sentencing.

The Bonanos and Cook are from Waveland. Meranto and Leblanc are both from Bay St. Louis; McLaurin is from Kiln; Shiyou is from Saucier; Lee is from Carriere; and Anderson is from Wichita, Kan.
