Greenwood man charged in shooting

GREENWOOD, Miss. — A Greenwood man has been charged with murder and aggravated assault in a weekend shooting that left one man dead and another hurt.

Deputy Police Chief Johnny Langdon tells the Greenwood Commonwealth that 23-year-old Warren "Sam" Gideon was being held in the Leflore County jail pending an initial court appearance.

Langdon says Jared Jherrod Moore died of gunshot wounds Sunday and Kendrick Deon Smith was injured. Langdon says Smith is in stable condition at the Greenwood Leflore Hospital.

Police say the shooting occurred during an argument at the scene of an accident. Moore and Smith were shot while at the scene.

Police say Gideon surrendered to officers at the scene.
