Suspect in domestic incident shot by deputy

NEW ALBANY, Miss. —

A suspect in a domestic violence incident in western Union County died after being shot by a Union County deputy sheriff.

Sheriff Jimmy Edwards declined to identify either the deceased or the deputy involved in the shooting.

Edwards tells the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal a 911 call shortly before 8 p.m. Tuesday reported a disturbance, and a deputy was dispatched to a home on County Road 51.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol will lead the investigation of the incident.

Edwards declined to discuss the circumstances that led to the shooting while the investigation is ongoing. He said only the deputy, the suspect and two females were in the house at the time of the shooting.
