Hattiesburg woman dies in fire

HATTIESBURG, Miss. —

An apartment fire in Hattiesburg claimed the life of a 59-year-old woman.

Forrest County Coroner Butch Benedict said Rosalyn Packer was pronounced dead at the scene of the Thursday morning fire. Autopsy results were pending but Benedict said smoke inhalation was the likely cause of death.

The fire was confined to one apartment in a four-unit building. Firefighters said it appeared to have started on the stove but the cause was under investigation.
