MERIDIAN —
Meridian High School received 19 points from Dennis Miles and lockdown defense from Jaricus Hubbard as the Wildcats upended top-ranked Callaway 46-40 at home Saturday night.
Miles, a Dandy Dozen selection by the Jackson Clarion-Ledger, led Meridian in scoring but just as big to the 6-2 Wildcats’ success was the defensive play of Hubbard against Callaway’s sophomore star Malik Newman, who was held to just nine points.
Torlorf Thomas added 14 points for Meridian, which also got seven from point guard Jevaughnte Harris.
Meridian hosts South Jones on Thursday.

Dandy Dozen Kayla Gordon helped the Wildcats cruise Saturday with a game-high 17 points.
Myracle Dubose added nine as MHS moved to 6-1. The Wildcats host South Jones on Thursday.

In the consolation championship game of the East Central Classic, the Knights edged their county rival behind 20 points from JD Williams and 11 points from Vince Watkins.
The Knights beat Scott Central 54-47 on Friday to advance to the consolation title game behind 25 points from KD Edmonds and 12 from Williams.
West, which improved to 8-1, hosts Laurel in the Division 5-4A opener Tuesday.
