MERIDIAN —     There were no changes at the top of any of the seven classifications in the Mississippi Prep Sports Source football rankings this week, but there was some significant movement just below the top in Classes 4A, 2A and 1A.

South Panola and Meridian remain an undisputed No. 1 and No. 2 in MHSAA Class 6A, although the MHS Wildcats did receive a little scare from No. 11 Starkville before holding on for a 14-7 win. Rounding out the top five are Madison Central, Petal and Olive Branch. The biggest movers were Gulfport which climbed three spots to No. 7 and George County and Northwest Rankin which jumped into the rankings at No. 10 and No. 12 respectively.

West Point is No. 1 in 5A, followed by West Jones, Wayne County, Picayune and Ridgeland, while McComb made the jump to No. 6.

There was no change in the top four in Class 4A, but after that things got a little crazy. Lafayette County is No. 1, followed by Noxubee County, Purvis and New Albany. Six of the top 10 teams lost on Friday, allowing North Pike to jump six spots to No. 5 and Kosciusko to climb eight spots to No. 6.

The top eight in Class 3A pretty much remained the same with the only change being Tylertown and Franklin County swapping positions at No. 5 and No. 6.

Forest remains No. 1 in Class 3A, followed by Charleston, Philadelphia, Aberdeen and Tylertown.

Taylorsville is No. 1 in Class 2A, while Bassfield moves up to No. 2, followed by Calhoun City, Puckett and East Webster.

Durant holds on to the top spot in 1A, followed by Smithville, Mount Olive, Nanih Waiya and French Camp.

The top nine teams in the MAIS Overall rankings remain unchanged with Jackson Academy leading the way, followed by Jackson Prep, Madison-Ridgeland Academy, Brookhaven Academy and Simpson Academy.
