MERIDIAN —     It was a wacky 48 minutes of football Friday night at Grey Cobb Field. The homestanding Lamar Raiders relatively outplayed the visiting Cougars from

Central Hinds, but six turnovers proved to be costly for Lamar as they were defeated 31-14.

    Lamar outgained Central Hinds by more than 40 yards, and gained 17 first downs compared to 12 for the visitors.

    The Cougars opened the game with 17 unanswered points, but Lamar cut into the lead with three minutes left in the first half when Tyler Harris hooked up with Gane Dungan for a 5-yard touchdown on fourth down.

    However, CHA struck back when quarterback Jordan Currie found Lu Price for a 25-yard touchdown pass just before halftime to make the score 24-7.

    Central Hinds added another touchdown when Currie connected with Pate DeMuth for 35 yards, his second touchdown reception of the night.

    Lamar added another score late when Harris found Dungan again, but the six turnovers were just too much for Lamar to overcome.

    Harris finished 21-or-31 for 219 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions. Charlie Nosco caught 12 passes for 137 yards.

    Lamar travels to Columbus next week to face off against Heritage Academy.

    The Admirals scored two touchdowns in the first and second quarters to roll past the visiting Knights, who fell to 0-3.

    Gulfport tacked on 10 points in the third quarter for the final scores as the Admirals impoved to 3-0.

    West looks for its first win next week at Southeast Lauderdale.

    Tim Eaves put the Warriors on the board early, scoring from 11 yards out in the first quarter. Greenville Christian, though, scored two touchdowns in each of the first three periods to pull away at home.

    Eaves completed 3 of 6 passes for 44 yards, while Arik Washington rushed 11 times for 42 yards for RCA (0-3).

    "We started strong, but had several key players injured," Russell coach Brent Jackson said. "Greenville had a lot of speed."

    Greenville, meanwhile, was led by Tyler Findley's 96 yards and two touchdowns on eight carries. Quarterback Justin Leavey also scored twice on 11 carries, churning out 79 yards. The Cougars totaled 270 yards on the ground.

    RCA visits Clinton Christian next week.

    The Cougars fell to 1-2, falling on the road Friday night at 3-0 Rebul.

    Calvary got a 41-yard touchdown run from Jalen Burwell in the first quarter and after Rebul rallied for a 7-6 halftime lead thanks to a PAT in the second quarter, the Cougars regained the advantage on a 7-yard touchdown run from Zach Carpenter in the third. Rbeul, though, would scored later in the third for the game-winner.

    Cory Holdiness led the Cougars with 109 yards rushing on 11 carries.

    Calvary hosts Mt. Salus Christian next week.

    Fans were treated to an array of big plays Friday night in Decatur as Newton County handed Choctaw Central its first loss of the season.

    After an early field goal by the Cougars' Cole Ballard, Warriors' quarterback Garrick Stoliby found tight end Josh Smith from 13 yards out for the touchdown. That would be the last lead for Choctaw (2-1) on the night.

    Newton County answered right back as Jomarol Graham returned the ensuing kickoff 85 yards to make it a 10-6 game. NCHS (3-0) wasn't done yet as it closed out the first half in style on the ol' hook-and-ladder play. Walker threw a pass out to Tremaine Walker who in turn pitched to Graham. He proceeded to take it 50 yards for the score and the Cougars led 18-6 at intermission.

    Newton County went back to work in the third as Aaron Jones found the end zone on an 8-yard run to make it a 24-6 affair.

    The Warriors would battle back to tie at 24 thanks to Stoliby's second and third touchdown passes of the night from three and 47 yards.

    The Cougars, however, would put the game away late scoring on each of its last three possessions. Graham added his third score of the night on a 33-yard run, while Sed Paige had a 44-yard touchdown run. Aaron Jones capped off the scoring with a 59-yard interception return.

    Newton County has a bye next week, while Choctaw travels to North Carolina to face Cherokee.

    The Tigers got three touchdown passes from DeKarion Beasley to Terrance Evans and another one from Beasley to Chris Turner to roll in Ed Stanley's home debut at Newton.

    "We feel like we're getting better each week," Stanley said. "We're working hard and will get a true test next week against Morton.

    "Morton has a fine football team and beat Newton pretty good last year."

    The Tigers (2-1) led 14-8 after the first quarter, 29-8 at halftime and 37-8 through three periods.

    Newton hosts the Panthers next week.

    Turnovers proved costly for the Generals on Friday. NCA lost four fumbles, including one inside the 10 and another near midfield on a late drive.

    NCA (2-1) got a pair of touchdowns from Dillon WIlliams and one from Dylan Lewis, but couldn't overcome the miscues.

    "We played right there with them," NCA coach Robert Roberts said. "But we couldn't overcome the fumbles. They really cost us."

    The Generals visit Sylva Bay Academy next week.

    A few crucial defensive breakdowns and a costly fumble in the second quarter cost the Panthers their first win of the season.

    Quitman (2-1) led 7-6 after the first quarter when Todrian Laphand scored. However, the Wildcats took control with a 14-point second quarter, highlighted by a defensive score when Quitman couldn't handle an option pitch.

    The teams traded scores in the third, with Anthony Chambers scoring for the Panthers.

    "Our defense didn't play horrible," Quitman coach John Douglass said. "We'd miss one or two assignments and they had the athletes to exploit that.

    "Most of the time we played well, but we had just one or two breakdowns and they'd take it about 60 yards."

    The Panthers host Meridian next week.

    In a back-and-forth game at Lake on Friday, the Bulldogs pulled away with a huge fourth quarter. Trailing 18-14 heading into the final stanza, Enterprise tacked on three scores.

    Ryan Moore led Enterprise (2-0) with three touchdowns and 99 yards rushing, while J.B. King had 92 yards rushing. Sophomore quarterback Maxwell harmon scored twice.

    Enterprise hosts Union on Friday.

    Kemper County running back Tevin Roberts put on quite the spectacle and led the Wildcats past Carthage on the road Friday night. Kemper is now 3-0 on the season.

    Roberts carried the ball 23 times for 289 yards including touchdown runs of 6, 25 and 67 yards. Ladarius McCoy had a 34-yard touchdown run, while Milon Roberts found the end zone from 36 yards out. Defensive back Michael Castro iced the game for Kemper with a interception which he returned for 35 yards for a score.

    Kemper will host Forest on Friday night in what will be the biggest test of Kemper's season to date.    

    "We've got a lot of work to do," said Kemper County coach Daryl Carter. "My guys are looking forward to the challenge. There won't be any excuses next week. We just have to keep doing what we're doing."

    Quarterback Clint Quinn ran for one score and threw for three others as the Rams rolled to a division win on the road Friday.

    KA (2-0) led 20-0 at the half and 28-0 heading into the fourth quarter. Tyler Sanderford and Johnny Allen each topped 100 yards rushing for the Rams, with Sanderford scoring twice and Sonny Leonard also scoring twice.

    "Overall we played well," KA coach Pete McCleskey said. "We need to keep improving on our conditioning."

    The Rams host Delta Academy next week.
